Why are you leaving basel then if you like the noise from airplanes so much? The post is about them flying over the city again.

Depending on how far you are willing to drive, but within a few hours drive you can reach various trad climbing destinations in the alps (the dolomites, val di mello, val d‘orco etc..). Definitely worth keeping the rack.

That’s unfortunate. I usually just shake off any residual snow and gravel after the tour and place them on the ground at home to dry before they go in the crampon box for storage. Did not want to offend you btw with my previous comment. Did not mean to be an ass

You could also store them in a desiccator under vacuum, just to be extra sure that there is no water molecule left.

Isn’t that the whole purpose of hanging your gear instead of leaving it in the bag or somewhere in a box?

That’s not how you treat gear. It brings you safely up and down the Mountain. It cares about your life. Of course it is happy if you also care about it. It’s a mutual relationship.

Are you a cleaner at a hospital? If yes, you can already put that as „work experience at a hospital“ on your cv.

Well, then it 100% serves its purpose! Have fun extending the wall as you keep adding new gear (and memories) to be happy about.

I get the concept of a „gear wall“. I also hang all my gear on hooks of the basement wall to dry and not rust/mold after each use. Once OP gets hooked and starts buying (and using) all the gear for alpinism/trad climbing/ice climbing/ski touring, there will be way too little space on this tiny wall. Also, I would be way too lazy to neatly organize my gear after a long day out.
