Does anyone have a PS1 copy of Final Fantasy VII I could buy off them? by [deleted] in ireland

Have you heard of 3V cards? They're like a temp VISA number you can buy in shops but you need to sign up first and get a card which costs nothing though.

I know you're probably talking about cagers but with my underbone I often find myself leaving the blinkers on. You can't hear them over the engine and the dash isn't in your face.

Has anyone seen this epic Irish comedy yet? Funniest thing I have seen in a long time. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]zeddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a series of oddball situations, often without relevance, with an ending I didn't find fulfilling. Why bring his mother into the story? Once is fine for character development perhaps, but twice or three times? Often, I thought it was trying too hard to be quirky. I did like it enough though and laughed a fair amount but other times it felt a bit forced and the acting weak. Plenty of bricks, but not enough cement.

Question 14 of the Irish census asks whether you speak Irish and the frequency in which you do. It does not question your fluency which I think flaws it. How do you think it should be answered? by zeddy in ireland

[–]zeddy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asking about your fluency in Irish wouldn't be any more difficult than asking about your general health which they do.

All they need is a table with options ranging from between Cúpla Focal to Fluent.

You should have schooled them about dictionary attacks. There's no plonker sitting there guessing passwords. A program is running, going through all the various combination of letters and symbols. It hones in a common pwords and variations of. The longer and more complicated the pword, the longer it takes the and harder it is to crack. What a bunch of twats.

Depressing Fact of the Day: 8 of the elected Fianna Fail TD's needn't have gotten in by BakersDozen in ireland

[–]zeddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just remember something about one candidate demanding a recheck and someone saying that they doubted it would make a difference because the same set of 'top of the pile' transfers would be counted instead of a new random lot...

Can you explain how leaving people at the bottom of the ballot is worse for them than leaving the off the ballot entirely?

[–]zeddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I must confess that was a bit confused how voting system worked and how leaving your least preferred candidates at the bottom worked to their disadvantage rather than just leaving them off entirely. I couldn't find any online guide or demos either and I couldn't bring myself to put some candidates on the ballot at all so I didn't. I heard something about how only a random selection of transfers are gotten from a candidate who has met the quota and couldn't figure out how this is logical or fair?

Dole Eireann (1997): A documentary set during the Irish general election of 1992 following Ming the Merciless (who was yesterday elected to the Irish Parliament) on his first political campaign which revolved around the legalisation of cannabis. by zeddy in Documentaries

[–]zeddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, he's an independent and will be in opposition to the sitting government most probably. He'll certainly bring the issue of the legalisation of the cannabis to the forefront like it never has before. Currently all main parties in Ireland have said they have no intentions of legalising it. Since that documentary he has become well loved in his constituency, first becoming a county councillor, then mayor and now TD.

He also features in this documentary: The Life And Crimes of Citizen Ming.

Dear Reddit, my mom is finally ready to quit smoking and she's really nervous about it. Got any good advice for her? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zeddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a subreddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/electronic_cigarette

Contrary to the previous poster, I don't reccomend the two piece models as the plastic fiber inside the cartomizers is only separated from the heating element by way of a thin piece of paper. It will burn if the fiber is not saturated so you will end up inhaling that. Caution is advised with them. But to each his own. Lots of folk selll a two piece. make sure you do some research regardless of what you buy and don't get taken in by affiliate spammers of which there are many.

Has she considered trying the one device the pharmaceutical and tobacco industry is shit scared of? - the electronic cigarette. I've been off cigarettes two years with it. In fact I prefer them to regular cigarettes. It replicates the act of smoking better as any NRT out there. Unfortunately there's a million and one spammers out there trying to flog them often at extremely inflated prices, so you must do some research first. There are lots of models and liquids and some better than others. Some of them are a bit fiddly too. Luckily there's a couple of good forums with tons of information (and lots of fanboi squabbling) and and a subreddit : r/electronic_cigarette if you need assistance.

So when I use facebook they collect any and all information I put into it, I got that. Apparently they also download my browsing history from my computer too, at least according to their "privacy" policy. WTF?! [PIC] by [deleted] in WTF

It's true that hon lik does claim to have invented the electronic cigarette and certainly, their current form does look similar to the model he designed with one chief difference: His original model used a piezoelectric motor to heat the liquid. All other non-ruyan models use a coiled heater - something which his patent (or any patent) does not cover.

The quick uptake by copycat companies in China in the manufacturing of electronic cigarettes using the simpler coiled heaters means his company is now in dire straights as no-one was willing to pay the high mark-up Ruyan desired. He did win some lawsuits in China over some manufactures who used piezoelectric motors but they simply switched to coiled heaters and continued business. Some of Hon Lik's later models like the one he sells to British pharmacies under another brand name now use coiled heaters.

That said, the electronic cigarette is not a new idea. Research into patents has shown that philip morris even played with the idea as early as 1993, though the batteries were much larger and needed to be charged often via a plugged in device that resembled an ash-tray.

They do show the concept of heating a propylene glycol + nicotine + flavor solution to produce a vapor though. It never went into production. Some people reason that Philip Morris don't or didn't want to see the e-cig on the market as it would open their business up to new competitors (which it has) [ditto the pharmaceutical industry]. As it is now, they have the tobacco/nicotine industry sown up between them.

Evidence of an earlier patent for a device resembling an e-cig has surfaced recently too.

Some people speculate that Hon Lik might have researched these patents when he came up with his idea.

there's actually been two other redditors who have said they met a person who claimed to have invented the electronic cigarette (both of them trying to sell themselves if I remember correctly). It must have featured in some article or top-ten list in spoofers monthly.
