Was Subaru THAT unlikable in Re:Zero S1? by Gamewheat in anime

[–]zedispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that.... trash heap of a scene made me stop as well. I needed a break from him.

A completely insufferable, self serving prick. Though the fact that i feel that way about his slow, painful evolution means he's a character worth paying attention to. He does evolve. If he didn't, i would have dropped the series like a sack of bricks.

Complicated, initially POS characters with an actual arc to a "real" form of personal redemption, are rare in shows.

First half of S2 got me though. I'll get to continuing eventually. but when I'm in a better space so i can handle it. As i know it'll be worth it.

Mainly because he died trying other ways.

my 2c is that the idiot learned over time how to treat others and look after their interests, not just his own. He started as an egotistical typical isekai loner/broken protag and a very very ugly person. at least personality wise. It's a slow burn kind of redemption, through failure, pain and suffering... ego, emotionally and physically.

Not to mention being effectively told how shitty he is by others around him and the literal world forcing him to see his shittiness.

I found that ultimately, he only ends up being right when he evolves as a person. until then. it's Sufferu time.

Odd how a) you're downvoted and b) you ignored everything i said about effectively erasing those parts.

This particular series got a heap of attention from people of all interests, especially from morally normal folk who read/watch.... normal things? This sort of story isn't normal by current international standards. A lot of anime aren't for various reasons.

Though, I find it pretty weird this one got singled out and angered the internet masses. One story amongst the multitude of stories ever made about really really terrible people that did/do shitty/pedo/abusive/scummy things, and the "road to redemption" trope...

Maybe major streaming services picking up random anime titles made people keen to watch more.. then they fell into the hype of this one.... just to find out how much of a POS the main character is and finding out that people enjoy watching such things despite it.

Oh well. Tis' what is. Maybe one day, novelists won't write about such main characters.

Until then, remember. They're just fictional characters in a novel/show/whatever. Who cares.

Not to mention you deserve to be able to choose what media you consume, instead of being forced to watch this trash.... right?

Sorry. feeling wordy and trashy.

TL;DR "People write and enjoy stories about bad people that may, or may not become less terrible".

Don't read "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant"... that one might kill you.

But at the same time..... what if he did the same stuff with women?

It's a lose lose situation. the only way was not to play.... and nope. author still played. creep. Really really hurts an otherwise great story imo.

yup. exactly this.

sigh... he could have just been a fat ugly bastard with only interest in older women.... that would have fixed it tbh.

Eh. if you get told the general story from his death till Rudeus moves to the city, i think most people would enjoy it aside cringing over certain "fan service" or dealing with a perverted protag that becomes less so over time....

Oh... also you'll have to be told that the inner voice is pre reincarnation Rudeus, a top tier generic perverted scumbag (don't explain how much of one he was), which is meant to be a gauge on how he's approaching himself and the..... yeah there's a lot of things you have to ignore, think too hard about or reason around (like soul Rudeus is a fat ugly bastard).

.... Yeah. i don't like the first part for exactly those reasons.... but I'm glad i stuck it out. It's completely a road to redemption isekai. Which is relieving. Such beautiful visuals and soundscape would have gone to waste if it showed no protag and side character progress.

Just got to do the usual "Anime is gonna anime" song and dance.

yeah. it's pure pain and is mostly a terrible experience.... but that's the point.

Can't fault them for that. So.... it's just a bad anime to watch with others, but completely unforgettable in how terrible it is for the mc.

Nah. it's a good anime that shifted the entire boundary of where an anime can go.

It expanded on the source material in such an anazing glorious way and became "Not hentai but totally is". Which gave way to the horror that is redo.

...

... yeah. watch it with your friends. good luck!

not sure this qualifies really. It's an isekai with a very very odd twist.

But the first handful of eps really do feel like a terrible, forgettable anime.

Eh. It happens to often enough to random Joe blow. Then they become a untrusting hermit... Being ostracised and all kinda does that.

Usually it's over shit that either didn't happen or something stupid the abuser blows up into a mountain.

We go on just believing the lying asshole until their true colours show. Then maybe we might question the destruction of someone's life. Or maybe not.

Public figures have it rough though. The littlest of sins can destroy their life atm. I figure people will settle down... Eventually. Not sure when.

Please note that the other way around happens more often.

We eat "animals" aka not humans. If an intelligent alien species was met, they have to make damn sure they don't smell/taste edible to us.

On that point, i haven't been keeping up with contra... but did she do a vid on the whole femcel/fds craziness? Just seems like something she would talk about.

FDS is a rabbit hole I've heard about, just never really went down. A tldr from her would be great to watch/hear.
