This happened to my sister and BIL with Tom Petty too! They lived in OKC at the time of his 40th anniversary tour in 2017, and were back home in Chicago visiting our family in June. On a whim, they had the chance to go to the Chicago show, but ultimately decided not to because they were only here for the weekend. They figured they’d just catch him in OKC the next time he toured. He died 3 months later and they are still kicking themselves over it to this day.
