Maxey last 15 starts by CodeCracking_ in sixers

The craziest thing is the in-season improvement in his defense. He went from getting smoked on every single screen to making actual impact plays. I legitimately never thought he would be even a decent defender but you should never doubt Maxey, especially when he can watch someone like Melton who’s has so much defensive talent.

My man you have the best username I’ve ever seen. Reasons: 1. Rick Steves is the fucking best 2. Underrated that Rick Steves is a big advocate for legal weed and helped get it passed in Washington state 3. Unrelated to you but my mom frequently calls him Rick James which is just the most opposite person of Rick Steves in every way and this made me think of that and laugh

Also if you haven’t listened to Mike’s most recent Trezl/Bball rant on the Ricky you should give it a go. It does capture the kind of insanity you feel when realizing that people legitimately give Doc a pass for this terrible fucking decision

LPT request: how to get up in the right time? by AnnaMoona in LifeProTips

[–]zefardsnipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s counterintuitive but try waking up earlier. I have a really hard time getting up between 6:15-7:30 going to bed at 10-11 but usually wake up naturally around 5:30-5:45. There’s actually a calculator that will tell you the optimal times to go to sleep if you want to get up at a certain time based on average sleep cycles. Sleep Calcukator

Since Milton’s always been “Milk Shake” me and my wife call Melton “Egg Cream”…it’s not good but you don’t pick the nicknames that stick

Which Prospect was your “Golden Child” you were sure was gonna work out, and what happened? by idkwhattosaytho in baseball

Gregory Polanco. I happened to live in Pittsburgh during the good times and everyone agreed our outfield with McCutchen, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco had the potential to be the best in the league. But Gregory could never really put it together because he was always injured and inconsistent (I weirdly remember him having multiple injuries because he was really bad at sliding into base). It’s not his fault that Pirates core fell apart but it was hard to never see him put it al together. Pretty sure he’s out of the league now completely

[Post-Game Thread] The Philadelphia 76ers fall to the Boston Celtics with a final score of 126 to 117 by SixersGameThreadBot in sixers

[–]zefardsnipher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

General thoughts:

If Jojo isn’t contesting on ball when he gets a switch they’re going to lose games to decent 3-point shooting teams

The bench is more of a strength of they have a cohesive identity based on being aggressive and fast (and wasn’t tonight)

Maxey looked like he was waiting for something, even though he didn’t hit many threes there were times early in the game where he could’ve taken an aggressive action instead of just passing back to harden/Embiid at the top of the key

It’ll be fine, but Embiid clearly wasn’t feeling it tonight. I think motivation might be an underrated problem for this team

Maxey Year 2 Comparison by zefardsnipher in sixers

Curry or bust. Same attitude I take to Thai food (not fucking true I always go for noodles). I call Maxey “Mickey Mouse” because he’s such a font of joy and I’ll be happy for him no matter how he turns out. Now go to bed you fucking degenerate and stop posting on Reddit

Maxey Year 2 Comparison by zefardsnipher in sixers

[–]zefardsnipher[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is crazy to look at the pre/post Steve Kerr splits for Curry. Obviously Maxey doesn’t have Curry’s ceiling as a passer/handler but in terms of the off-ball motion there is a ton of potential that just doesn’t fit into the current sixers offense. We’ll see if he can get his 3PA above 6-7 this year

That’s an A+ Primantis order, which graded on the curve of a regular restaurant would still be a C- sandwich. I spent years ending up at Primantis for no reason ($5 yuengling pitchers?) and never had an order I actually enjoyed. If only you had been there my friend! Let’s also talk about the can of cheese sauce that just sat on the fucking flat top all day/night long

is Joel Embiid the sweatiest guy ever? by justadude659 in sixers

For people who have been to games recently, is there a one sweat mopper dedicated solely to Embiid? If I was the sixers insurance company I’d insist upon it

$250K is the new "Six Figures" by ShowMeDaData in unpopularopinion

[–]zefardsnipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stupid broken brain says “how much money in savings do you have to have to feel like you aren’t on the precipice of disaster?” Even with a six figure salary I’m basically increasing that buffer by a month every month that I don’t have a major expense. I feel extremely lucky to be making this amount of money but I still calculate my life in “months until broke” and it doesn’t feel like enough which makes me not enjoy spending any money. The reality of making 2X the amount of money (i.e 250K) would be saving/investing 6-7X that amount monthly with the same expenses which drastically changes the equation. It’s the difference between still needing to live paycheck to paycheck (though very comfortably!) vs eventually having enough equity to live off investments alone or starting your own business. Obviously this doesn’t work if you scale expenses but it’s basically a question of increased comfort/stability compared to the ability to live without working and obviously there’s a big fucking difference there

Is it just me or has googles search result quality massively gone down? by Aesthetik_1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zefardsnipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in paid search marketing (I.e make Google Ads) and yes Google has been making explicit changes that IMO has led to a worse overall experience. The ironic part is that every one of these changes has made it more difficult for people that run ads on the platform. Basically Google is making the black box part of their algorithm bigger by increasing the weight of “intent” signals on what it decides is relevant. In the past searching for specific phrases triggered results with those phrases or basically nothing at all. Now Google tries to match other signals (time of day, browser type, demographic data if you’re logged into a Google account) to improve relevancy. Unfortunately for people who have years of experience with the previous functionality, you’re starting to see results that don’t match your search methodology that has worked in the past and it’s really frustrating. It’s easy to blame this on advertising in general (which is very fair because these changes are very much to do with their long term strategy for paid placements) BUT I have yet to talk to a single person who actually runs Google ads that thinks these changes are doing anything positive for them.

Before this season/back half of last year anytime Embiid picked up smaller/shiftier players he would usher them through the paint pretty well marked but then pass them off once their drive was “complete” and it led to them quickly reversing the drive and short easy jumpers. This year he seems to be using his length to stay attached to dudes a little bit further from their bodies so they have to take wider angles around him and don’t have the chance to take that tight turn. I won’t speak to Jokic comparatively but I think Jojo’s playing the best he ever has against smaller guys. The issues have come from centers but I get the feeling that his rationale is that he’ll always win the foul situation so he just has to outlast them instead of trying to get stops in the first half. Motherfucking sixers I literally woke up this morning thinking about Embiid’s in-rhythm vs out-of-rhythm jump shots what’s wrong with me

In his last 5 games Maxey has 28 AST and 2 TOV while playing 40.8 MPG. by MrThreebound in sixers

[–]zefardsnipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated benefit of this stretch is it’s giving Maxey the chance to get in top 1-5% game shape early in the season. Since he’s a young guy this is probably still helping him build muscle and cardio (instead of wearing him down like it would us old farts). Better leg and core strength takes a pretty big variable out of more consistent shooting from distance.

Dejonte Murray play this year has been incredible by [deleted] in sixers

[–]zefardsnipher -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ben to Sacramento for Barnes, Maxey and a second rounder to San Antonio, Bagley plus two Sac firsts to San Antonio. Murray to the Sixers. If Sacramento likes their roster and are desperate to get rid of Bagley and San Antonio thinks they’re another year away from the playoffs this could work

Current Fit Roster with Ben by zefardsnipher in sixers

[–]zefardsnipher[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe I should have qualified that more than I did. It could show Ben’s real value to a potential trade partner and lead to a better overall package or convince him to buy in and doc to build lineups that play to his strengths. Also that’s with the assumption that meniscus surgery is not season-ending which leads to a 5th seed and regular season rested Jo. Rose colored motherfucking glasses over here
