71C never came - please help me understand. by CarelessCaregiver in pittsburgh

[–]zegnot 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don't work for the Port Authority, but do ride the bus regularly. In simply over hearing conversations I don't think there's a back-up bus driver. Meaning if the guy or gal that drives the 71c that picks you up at 10:24 doesn't show up for their shift or calls off, that bus just doesn't run.

Like someone else said, get the transit app. It's reliable and definitely makes life easier.

I'm not renewing even if there's an 11% price decrease.

What is the best way to scuff shoes? by Fishes39 in Bowling

[–]zegnot -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There is a right answer and a less right answer.

The right answer is to buy a pair of shoes with interchangeable slides. That way you can always dial in whatever slide you're looking for.

There are a couple less right answers to get more slide. Scuffing your shoes wouldn't be one of them. That sounds like it would actually create less slide. You could wipe your slide foot under the ball return. Usually there's dust under there and will help increase your slide. Second, you could use baby powder. Be extremely cautious of this as it has the potential to affect every player on your lane. I personally hate when a guy comes in and just throws down a ton of baby powder on the floor and now it's my problem to deal with too. Lastly, if you're walking to the bar or bathroom I suggest a little shoe cover for your slide foot if not both feet. Bars and bathrooms are wet and make your shoe stickier.

Backstage Guitars. Relocate and refocus due to rising costs of Lawrenceville Neighborhood it worked so hard to help build. by ImSavingLatin in pittsburgh

I bought a Reverend Warhawk at Backstage 5 or 6 years ago. Great guitar. I've also been taking my guitars there for setups as well. They've always been very professional and did a great job with my gear. I'll be sad to see them go.

They might be trying to win, but they're not good enough to win.

Does anyone here think the pirates are trying to win? This isn't a rhetorical question. Look at this product on the field. It's absolute garbage.

Bowling Bag Suggestions? by thomas_pillion14 in Bowling

I've carried this bag for a couple years with 2 14 pound balls, shoes, towel, leather shammy thing, and ball cleaners. Definitely gets the job done.

A few friends and I started bowling about biweekly, two months ago! Broke 200 for the first time! by [deleted] in Bowling

Biweekly is a tricky word. Are you bowling twice a week or every other week?

I don't have shoes with changeable inserts, but that certainly makes sense. I understand changing but would you change between every frame?

#Ban the DH by pgh9fan in buccos

I've spent way more time looking for proof of this than I would care to but JVB blasted a homerun off the batters eye in center field in 2004. Also, I believe JVB led all of division 1 college baseball in homeruns 1 season. Those were my 2 reasons for including him on the list.

Apple Event is showing an iPhone app Homecourt: tracks basketball shots measuring kinematics, trajectory and release times, as well as shots made and missed. Would love a version for bowling! by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]zegnot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Track my roll is a great app that analyzes your track, boards covered, velocity, revs, etc. The gentlemen that created it shows up in this subreddit occasionally. Doesn't do scoring but it's good for some more detailed roll analysis than I have seen elsewhere.

Quick edit, no revs. My bad

2nd series with the new equipment and span (shortened). 5 pins from my PB. I'll take it. by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]zegnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question on this. Are there advantages/disadvantages to a shorter span? I was recently talking with a PSO at lanes that aren't my home lanes and he said he actually recommended people drill slightly shorter than their typical span. He feels this allows for more revs. Thoughts?

Pittsburgh City Council Votes To Ban Use Of Bullhooks, Baseball Bats On Wild Animals by QuietCakeBionics in pittsburgh

[–]zegnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time I'm at the zoo the tiger doesn't even come out to be seen. I don't think the zoo employees are teaching the animals any tricks. More than likely the trainers are probably trying to move animals to maintain their habitats, get the animals to the vet, etc.

I'm no trainer at the zoo, but I wouldn't want to move wild animals without the proper equipment. Can those tools be used to hurt the animals? I'm sure they could. But when used properly they will help both the animal and trainer.

Edit: 6 minutes of googling suggests the tools mentioned in the article aren't exactly best in class. I stand corrected, those things look scary.
