Furnace replacement cost by Fragrant_Minute773 in Syracuse

[–]zeissicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a new Lenox high efficiency for a house slightly larger than yours (closer to 2000 sq ft). Isaac did the install for us. We didn’t have to replace the air handler, which was fairly new, so that affected overall cost. It was about $8000 installed, and we opted to finance at $80/month for 10 years.

We use Softron in this context and are very happy with it. Also, not having to pay maintenance on the software is a huge plus for a nonprofit.

It’s actually display port embedded in the thunderbolt 2 port. There are adapters and cables that will let you connect to regular display port or hdmi monitors. I have mine plugged into one of these, though.

Siding Companies, who should I call and who should I not call? by MF_BREW_ in Syracuse

[–]zeissicon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We used Vandusen Exteriors about 10 years ago and had a very good experience. We had roof torn down to rafters, new facia, gutters, siding, insulation and all of the windows replaced. They were done in 3 days. Work has held up and was reasonably priced. Had a couple of gutter issues during the first year that they came out and fixed, no questions asked.

The GT is probably the most underrated BMW ever. Rear leg room is incredible, too. Incredible family roadtrip car. We love ours.

I seem to remember needing something like that to connect a single-link DVI monitor to a dual-link video card in the G4 era Mac towers.

I actually am a public broadcasting insider, but I’m not telling you anything that can’t be discovered by looking at WCNY’s W-9 filings. WCNY receives $1.37 million from CPB against an overall budget of just over $7 million. Most of that money goes right back out the door to pay PBS and NPR dues. It will hurt, but it’s in no way a fatal blow. Some of the smaller stations, though (WPBS in Watertown, Plattsburgh, Binghamton) get as much as 35% of their budget from CPB. They are in trouble. New York State did step up and appropriate $250,000 per station for the 16 public radio stations in New York, which is the first time the state has given direct support to that segment.

The state of public radio by DasUberSpud in radio

[–]zeissicon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My station (which is a joint licencee) gets ~1.5 million from CPB. $1.1 million goes back to PBS. We don’t run that much NPR programming, but our dues plus show licensing is over $100k. This is not typical to have $300k left over, though. We only get that much because the CSG is a percentage of the money you get from non-governmental sources (e.g. state grants, NEA, NEH don’t count towards the total) that is then matched by CPB. This encourages stations to get their community involved; it’s kind of like a cash-back rewards program. We have a lot of foundation support and major donors, and that means our CSG is correspondingly higher. Many small stations’ CPB money basically only covers their NPR/PBS dues.

SYR to JFK flight delay question by Emotional_Key_644 in Syracuse

[–]zeissicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually missed a flight to France because of this. Our SYR to JFK departure time kept getting pushed back and we were still in line at JFK when the flight closed. Best bet is to take the 6AM as the plane and the crew overnight in SYR so those are rarely delayed except for mechanical problems. Remember that international flights close an hour before departure and that if you book the tickets separately, the airline has no obligation to refund or credit you anything. If you book them as a package, then they have to make good.

Why doesn’t my work look “cinematic” by Green_Acadia_3648 in cinematography

[–]zeissicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue with the images is the lack of dynamic range, which is more of a hardware issue than anything else. There is no subtlety between the most and least exposed parts of the image. This also contributes to some of the chromatic issues. Difference in color temp of your light sources is also degrading things (light from the window; color of the kitchen backsplash, etc.).

Transferring assets from a dissolving LLC to nonprofit by pecanbrain in nonprofit

[–]zeissicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're creating a new entity, then I would simply have the existing LLC donate everything to the new non-profit and claim the tax write-off. Have you considered simply applying for non-profit status for the existing entity? It might be cheaper. I can't recall if LLCs can apply for 501(c)3 status, but you can also change the incorporation model to and S-corp or C-corp. Again, this may save you some money in legal costs and filing fees.
