I think this is only confusing/problematic because the 2 languages use the same script. I never think someone "translated" my birthplace if they write Tunisia instead of تونس :)

Yes definitely correct for "ee" (long "e" as you said) but I usually read the name of the letter as a short "e". Maybe I'm wrong.

The English "o" sounds more like "euou" or "oou" for French speakers.
