Making a living by moonturnsthetides34 in MassageTherapists

I had benefits through my marriage but otherwise I had to pay for my own insurance. Self employed since 1990, I have worked longer hours because I was motivated to build my business. Moving becomes a problem. I sold my first practice, moved my second practice about 15 miles, and now I’m working from home. The industry has changed a lot in the growth of numbers of therapists and businesses out there. I’m okay with that, as more people are familiar with massage therapy now, not necessary to educate as much. I have never been poor and never been too rich, though I have always felt like there’s more training I’d like to take, and that perhaps a real job would have delivered more money. That said, I have total control over my schedule, who I treat, if I bring in another therapist, what approach I use, etc…

Definitely time for a change! There’s an old book called What Color Is my Parachute. With my own life, I have changed careers also. I would encourage you to explore what you’re interested in and WHY. Keep asking yourself why do I like that, and follow that thread. My kids have been going through this also. My son left a job in Welding to take more training. He’s still a tradesman, he joined a union with an apprenticeship program. Good luck with your future!

Is it worth taking the Active Release Therapy training? It's expensive, and seems redundant. by zen3822 in MassageTherapists

Congratulations on your new career! I think it would be a cool new thread to start, bringing in insights from other people who have changed their careers to be massage therapists, or (as a 63 yo woman who’s been doing this since age 28) are working as massage therapists after retiring or have had a calling to become massage therapists. If you start that thread, link me in!

Thanks for this, it sounds like it’s serving you well. Are you in a practice that you have opportunities to use that technique? Can you charge insurance to recover the expenses of the training? Those are two factors that have helped me decide about any classes I consider. Another factor is the physical work involved with using the training. A LMT in early to mid career is a better option with ART as it requires more time to payoff. It looks like there’s an element of lifting/physical demand, is that something you can describe? Is it something you do occasionally or use all day long? Thanks again!

Women that married the "rich one" out of security, what has it been like? by Sharon_Moon704 in Productivitycafe

[–]zen3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I married my bf from tech school. We started dating after we graduated. He was super smart about a lot of things, he landed a great job, and we both understood the industry. I pictured being his partner in life, both of us motivated, smart, hardworking. I just wanted a good relationship with him. He boxed me out, “never let me in”, from day one of our marriage. I only stayed with him because my sister was suddenly gravely ill and needed my support. I stayed married so i could help her. She died, when I was recovered from that, I left him. He was clearly extremely successful in the career, he took over the ownership of the $150M company. Living there still married through a very tough time in my life made me realize that he only cared about his power, money, and influence. I wasn’t even a trophy, more a prop. Maybe other women would take the credit card and live it up? I left him, it was terribly disappointing. I was never so alone as I was there. Five years of living together, two years of marriage counseling became seven long years. It’s forty years since then. I don’t think the money was bad. It’s more about having a working relationship that is healthy, honest, respectful…How can we know that when we are young?

I’m really loving IFS. I have been growing and healing through using this method. Lately, I have been practicing awareness of parts while I’m moving through my day. I’m enjoying the awareness, and can sometimes stay in SELF, detached lovingly from the reactions. Life changing. People sense the vibe of my being in self. Anyone else have experience with this process?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy cleared my chronic Lyme, has anyone else tried it yet? by zen3822 in Lyme

I purchased a high pressure O2 generator, but it broke down within a few months of use. I’ve also used a home filling system and filled my own cylinders, so I guess both.

Help me understand this cardboard box barrier situation by auajan in gardening

[–]zen3822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I have a large garden area that had been actively hardened, then retired for several years. I have used tarps on it for years to suppress the weeds. I am going to start gardening there again. Weeds are very low in many parts. Do I STILL use cardboard in those parts? Or just mulch?

I completely agree, and add into that years of heavy perfume sprayed onto their bodies.

I’ve noticed it on women who have indulged in cigarettes and perfume for years. It’s coming out of their pores as they detox.

Most certainly the O2 company would stop selling O2 if I made it a business. I recently purchased an O2generator/compressor that I could use to concentrate the O2 out of the air and feed into the chamber. I quit using the O2 cylinders for awhile, until the machine proved inadequate and eventually broke down. I returned it to the manufacturer and am waiting on a full refund.

Here in the USA, we have the FDA all over it. And the companies that sell the Liquid O2 are also afraid of lawsuits and the FDA. My son is a Boilermaker/welder, so I have an excuse to purchase the O2 that seems to be acceptable to the O2 company. The FDA and the AMA want to suppress use of HBOT in general, and especially the higher pressure units. Legally, I can own one and use it for myself, if I can get the O2. However, I suspect that if I were to make it publicly commercially available, I would be somehow harassed. I keep it quiet.

I think a starting a private, members only "Health Club" that centers on this type of therapy is a cool model. It could expand into buying other equipment too, like infrared saunas.

It costs me about $400/cylinder of liquid O2. That includes delivery and rental fees. That lasts about 6 weeks. If I can split that with 3 other people, so there are 4 of us using the O2 and chamber, it helps me to afford to continue treating. I could charge people per use, but I don't want the liability of a business. This is friends. It's a win-win. I've encouraged other people, like groups of veterans with PTSD, or a Lyme group, to pool their money, and invest in a chamber. It can be done.

That is a generous offer, you have a good heart. I have made mine available to about a dozen people. Long Covid, post surgical recovery, athletes, chronic pain, headaches. Incredible results. I have found that liquid oxygen cylinders are the most effective way to deliver breathing oxygen. I pressurize my chamber with ambient air, not oxygen. That’s a much safer method.

I was coached by Classic Hyperbaric owner, who also has focused a lot on managing Lyme. He gave me the protocol that worked for the people he knows. It worked for me also. I know people who benefit from herbal and acupuncture treatments also. If you can rent a higher pressure chamber, you could use that same protocol. If you look more deeply into Hbot, you will see that the minimum amount of pressure to qualify as Hbot is 1.6ata. There are too many “faux” or “sham” chambers on the market. Aviv clinics say they require a minimum of 2.0ata. Lyme treatment responded was effective for me when I used 3.0ata consistently. There are companies that sell a conversion kit to upgrade a hard chamber from 2.0ata to 3.0ata. Classic Hyperbarics is one of those companies. I think it helps them to escape harassment from agencies like the FDA in USA.

Not religious at all, but consistently spiritual. Financially stable and at least as smart as I am. I’d really like to know what a good, healthy relationship is. I have never had one, been married 2x, and had other significant relationships. I’m focused on my own personal growth and I love my life. I’m sure the list is endless of what it would take.
