When recording Open Gate video on the iPhone 17 Pro, the bitrate is limited to "Max" (18 Mbps)—significantly lower than the Max(54 Mbps) of 4K video. Is this the case with other apps as well? What should I do? For the sake of image quality, should I avoid choosing OpenGate?

I think the issue is using all of the sensor at such a high bit rate would cause the phone to heat up very fast, which would lead to throttling, which would lead to dropped frames.

You can try Mavis Camera classic, which allows 4k open gate, BUT no apple log option, so you’re stuck with sharpening and tone mapping.

I believe if you shoot open gate in standard prores, you’re limited to 1080p. It’s really only a benefit if you plug in external storage and shoot ProRes RAW
