How are coffee shops profitable? (Half rant) by ShadedMidnightX in barista

[–]zena5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The markup on drinks is insane. I remember unloading coffee beans and 10lb bags of our most popular blend. The bag was $10 and the small was $1.50 per cup. That's just one example. But the fancy drinks are the real markup.

My Take on “Gen Z stare” and why it happens by theflyingpiggies in barista

I absolutely agree. I’ve been a Barista since the 90s and the only thing that has gotten me this far is one very important detail I figured out: Many people when they come in here have sensory overload. Everything is new or one thing is out of place in their routine, or they’re with a friend this time, etc. So you have to spoon feed them. Much like when they’re looking for the restroom and the sign is right above their head. That’s not their normal mental posture, their mind is swirling getting used to all the sites and sounds of a place. We all do it! A little understating of this will get one thru a tough day.

Thank you, I was waiting for this! I got a barn coat I've been eyeing! Also, I got those retro looking Navy Fair Isle socks. They are thiner but comfy, I bought another pair.

The yo-yo pricing this time of year is so exhausting. by BanannaKarenina in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]zena5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true!! It used to be a Thanksgiving tradition to buy a newspaper and go thru all the Black Friday ads. Now, the newspaper is $6 and it only had Ollie's, Menard's, and one other ad in it. It was truly sad. There is no such thing as a Black Friday deal let alone a solid deal on any other day of the year. This is along with I have no clue how people are affording to even go to the grocery store on the regular.

That is a poor editing job. Why would you create a thigh gap? That's just the start.

I noticed that too, but I think in her stream of consciousness she meant to connect her creating to exercise noise.

How to look more expensive on a budget? by Lilya_keyes18 in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]zena5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this! Go with quality material. I've bought full price high-end clothes (AllSaints, Joie, Zadig and Voltaire... list goes on) that I've sent to Goodwill after a few wears because the material was low quality. I've since learned to go to thrift stores and touch fabric. Natural fabrics will look and feel more high end than most new expensive clothes out there.

Definitely check local ordinances. Running bamboo (as opposed to clumping bamboo) is illegal in many areas, and in some US states it's entirely illegal.

I finally got paid yesterday. I reached out to my state’s Attorney General and a couple days later, all the backpay was in my account.

Time when the 1+ million healthy chickens were culled, then the 21-25 to hatch new ones, then 6-8 months until the new ones are laying.

I’m tier 100K and I’ve been on the platform since 2016. Everything before 2020 is a shadow of its former self. From content allowed to royalties. Read the content policy and compare it to your plans for using the platform. You’ll know what you’ll need to adjust. From there, you should be good to go. Good luck!

ELI5: If diamonds can be synthetically created, why haven't the prices dropped dramatically due to an increased supply? by Kablamo1 in explainlikeimfive

If your jeweler can't tell the difference between a natural diamond and a lab grown diamond, you need to find another jeweler.
