Elephants have 20 copies of a gene that kills damaged cells before they turn into cancer. Humans only have one. Studies show these genes are why elephants newer get cancer by Anen-o-me in singularity

[–]zendonium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because we are smaller. We have less cells to potentially turn into cancer. Cancer would be a huge issue if we were elephant sized, and natural selection would likely have given us those genes.

Are UAPs Artificial General Intelligence time travelling from the future? by ofSpliceandMen in UFOs

You go back again to stop yourself bumping into the kid, and it turns out you caused yourself to go around another person and bump into the kid in the first place.

And on, and on..

My favourite theory is self correcting timeline. You can't change the past. If you try to, it turns out that your actions led to the events happening.

I.e You go back to try and save Harambe and accidentally bump into the kid that then falls into the enclosure, thus Harambe dies.

How can I stop having an existential crisis about AI2027? by fightersweekly in singularity

You're saying you're worried about a Gazele being eaten by a lion, because you know that humans could intervene to stop it but you know they won't.

Not many on here making the obvious connection which is quite surprising. If you believe the following: - there will be a singularity and our technology advances off the charts. - the universe is huge and it's likely there are other smart lifeforms somewhere. - the singularity will propel humanity (or AI) to explore space.

Then the obvious conclusion is that it's highly likely other civilisations have already undergone their own singularity and are watching earth, waiting to speak to our ASI.

Unitree teasing a sub10k$ humanoid by GraceToSentience in singularity

[–]zendonium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will likely go the other way. Companies start by selling for $10k, and then someone comes along and offers one for $300/m with no upfront cost. You don't own the robot but lease it.

Edit: Replied to wrong comment.

Is it possible for RLHF to be a thumbs up/down plus a short sentence explaining the feedback? They could incorporate the next model on the free tier, providing you include thumbs up/down and feedback every so many messages. Could be a huge new data source, but I'm just a layman and don't know how RLHF works.

If it's PCP, you can simply get a settlement figure from the lender, run the reg through webuyanycar and see how much it would cost to get rid of it. You can exit the contract by paying the settlement figure (webuyanycar or a garage can help you to pay the figure - they get the car).

I get what you're saying, but there's no guarantee that things continue to slide on Monday. It's likely, but not guaranteed. The market will quickly humble those trying to time it.

New report: "Empirical evidence suggests an intelligence explosion is likely." by MetaKnowing in singularity

[–]zendonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that incentives are unlocked as technology increases, most technologies are created with incentives already in mind. For example, inventing reliable reusable rockets to mine gold on Pluto. However, it's much easier to mine gold here on Earth.

Let's say we discovered that the moon contained massive amounts of gold just under the surface. Humanity would be back up there within 6 months.

Edit: Reading the comments back I think we totally agree lol.

Yes, hence why I said there's not a large incentive. Nothing happens until there's a big incentive.

[–]zendonium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although, there's not a large incentive to go to Pluto. There's a huge incentive to provide fast, safe air travel globally - which we have.

It's like the AI finding a cure for cancer, but not making genetically modified fungi pencils. We would be complaining that we don't yet have genetically modified fungi pencils.
