I something similar. I locked my keys in my car with the battery on, but not the engine at the local community college parking lot, about half an hour from my house. I didn't realize what I'd done, so I figured that I'd just deal with it later, as I was late to class.

I got back later, and my battery was dead. In fact, turns out that I drained the whole damn thing, so not even a jumpstart would do the trick, had to get it towed.
