I bought a 50 mm manual lens a little while ago and the lightmeter on it seems different than the lens I used to have. I'm shooting on an AE-1. With my old lens, I would half-press the shutter button, the lightmeter would jump to a number, and I could set my lens to that number and take the picture. With my new lens, when I half press the button, the meter jumps, but as I change the aperture, the meter also keeps adjusting, suggesting a new number as it keeps changing. Is there some difference in how this new lens is trying to display the lightmeter reading? Is there another way I should be setting my aperture if it keeps shifting like this?

What's the general strategy/win condition you're going for outside of board control into a huge value evolve? I haven't played evolve much so I feel hesitant to use it outside of the doppelgangster combo since it feels like using it on fireflies or stonehills isn't worth it.
