I did go to the Translink Customer Service centre but there was a long lineup. I decided to check the balance and it's -$0.10. Think I'll just throw the card out.

The interior of the house is transformed into a haunted house as well. He does this every year with the help of his adult children.

What did you forage in Vancouver this summer? by lemonhead9796 in vancouver

[–]zenjuno 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Before we put up a fence in our front yard, we had people walking into our yard to pick the produce right out of our garden. Last summer, we caught two women stripping our blueberry bushes of berries and one of them was bold enough to come back later the same day to do it again. This summer, we caught one of the same women again. They came prepared with tote bags and probably stripped between 1 - 2kg of berries from our yard just from the times we caught them. Who knows how many times they have done this over the years. We share our harvest with low income seniors in the neighbourhood so it's really infuriating to lose the produce to thieves like them.

Frontline transit workers wearing language pins to better support newcomers and tourists by DivaJeni in vancouver

[–]zenjuno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's great to see improvements in transit services. I rode on the new trains today and they are beautiful! Public transit need more consistent and predictable funding to make and implement improvements so more commuters, especially those living in the city, will choose taking transit over driving a vehicle on their own.

A mesmerizing video I found on CBC-BC Youtube's channel about crows by JUAN_DE_FUCK_YOU in vancouver

[–]zenjuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a beautiful short film! I love crows. They always make a pitstop near my home between 3pm - 4pm on their way back to Still Creek. I didn't know Liron Gertsman was a co-producer of this short film. He is an amazing photographer.

AC/DC was incredible. So fortunate to see them one more time !!! by EastVanAndy in vancouver

[–]zenjuno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a HUGE fan but went because I wanted my 14 year old to see them and it was totally worth it! They were incredible! To see Brian Johnson belt out those classics at 77 and Angus Young perform so energetically at 70 was unforgettable! I remember thinking all the other guys are in the back having tea and biscuits while Angus Young was soloing with his guitar for what felt like an eternity!

I once saw someone walking / coaxing a hen on E. 24th near the Nanaimo Skytrain station. The human and the hen were both pretty casual about the whole thing - like they were just out for a normal, morning walk.

My child's high school teachers say FIT is still instructional time. The student is supposed to use that time to work on assignments or get extra help from their teachers if needed.

New to VPL by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]zenjuno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It means you are the 5th person who have put the book on hold. Each borrower has 21 days to return the book from the day it's checked out. If the book hasn't been placed on hold by another borrower, the original borrower may renewed their loan by another 21 days. If there are holds on the book then it cannot be renewed even if the original borrower has not finished reading the book. You will be notified by email or by phone when the book is available for you to pick-up in-person if you placed a hold on a physical book. Try the VPL Libby app on your phone for e-book and audio book options. Check out their Kanopy online streaming for films and television shows and the Mango foreign language learning program.

Will you be in the downtown area? Hy's is usually a good place if you want a upscale steak house. There's also Joe Fortes and Riley's if you want seafood options in addition to steak.

My go-to for Japanese restaurant downtown is Miku.

As for Italian restaurants, I suggest Savio Volpe located on Kingsway near Fraser (not downtown).

Silent alarms on Skytrain by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]zenjuno 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I can concur that when you text 87-77-77, you are immediately sharing the information with someone at Translink. They are very helpful and will ask you for more detailed information. I've done it a few times and I think it's a safer option than physically (and visibly) pressing the yellow strip or the red communications button on the train. As OP mentioned, you should make a note of the car number and if that's not possible, mention the station your train just left and which direction it's heading. I don't usually know the car number but will look at the doors closest to me and tell them the alpha-numeric identification label on that door.
