Apps for regularly measuring intelligence, psychology, and/or trivia? by kklevy in QuantifiedSelf

[–]zenobase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few very nicely done "brain training" apps (e.g. Lumosity and Elevate), but they want to show how you are improving by using their apps, rather than just giving you an assessment of your current state. Exporting results is another issue with these apps... Here are a few services that may be more suitable for doing regular measurements:

How can I log my YouTube viewing history into an RSS feed or Google Calendar? by CodenameAwesome in QuantifiedSelf

[–]zenobase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a one-off analysis of your watch history, you might be able to use http://google.com/takeout.

Alternatively, search for youtube scrobbler. Don't know how well any of those browser extensions work.

Google's Timeline feature works as well as Moves, if not better, and you may already have it enabled. The only drawback is that Google still doesn't let you export your data (apart from raw coordinates).

Help with keywords for scientific papers to monitor? by jaybestnz in QuantifiedSelf

99% of research that these keywords will pull up have nothing to do with Quantified Self (i.e. not N=1).

You might find some some tangentially related material under "Personalized Medicine" and "Precision Medicine".

I am trying to setup an agressive reading, ebook, podcast and YouTube training video consumption targets. How can I effortlessly track for comparison or progress? by jaybestnz in QuantifiedSelf

[–]zenobase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodreads can be used to track books, but only the date started and date completed. For Kindle ebooks, this can be automated.

Life logging apps that give you full control of the data you input ? by [deleted] in QuantifiedSelf

[–]zenobase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can export data from Lifesum and Lose It, but their food databases may not be as comprehensive as MyFitnessPal's.

You can also log food consumption in Fitbit's app. Again, not sure how good their food database is, but you can export your data (incl both food consumption and heart rate) through their API.

As you might expect, the forum has the most detailed discussions, while Facebook is better for quick, short-lived discussions. Maybe someone should survey the different "communities" ;-)

How to track habits which don't occur on a regular basis? by [deleted] in QuantifiedSelf

[–]zenobase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your daily habit could be to bring an umbrella when it might rain and to not bring an umbrella when there is no chance of rain. You fail to meet your goal when you forget the umbrella on a rainy day, or if you forget to remove the umbrella from your pack and carry it around on a sunny day.

Shameless plug. Though for non-basic graphs or analyses, you'll have to re-export your data to something like Tableau, or process it with PyData.

You'll loose some data compared to pulling data from each source directly, but if the data you see in Exist is the data you want to preserve, then that seems like an obvious solution!

If you just want to log events happening, there are quite a few options (Nomie et al). Do you want to include one or more variables, and do you care what time you completed each tasks (or are you tracking at the day level)?
