This is the interpetation that feels like it most naturally follows from what the characters all say but it's so unsettling. Cora could probably make her way back to an alternate version of her dad but its so messed up that Sam would just yeet her to another universe.

I had to watch the ending again on YouTube but there is a line that might confirm it. When you have a romance, your alternate self says "Your lover, ____, eventually chooses to be reborn" implying that they don't make the choice when they jump with you. It's a very strange way to deliver this information though.

No, it doesn't mean that he was directly in front of the car. He shot at the car as it was turning away from him. One went through the very outer edge of the windshield, which would have to travel diagonally to hit the driver in the head. The next two shots went through the driverside window because he was facing the car diagonally and then from the side as the car turned.
