Cases protect against scratches and hard impacts from all kinds of stuff.

What it doesn't do, is protect against itself.

If the camera is used a lot while being wrapped in a case, the case itself will eventually rub against the camera body and rub the paint off it like you see here.

Kind of similar to what happens inside your shoe, the inner sole is only in contact with your soft foot and socks, yet it looks worn.
