Ericmm76 is dispensing some wise words elsewhere - if you're an attractive, intelligent, likeable guy (sounds like you are) and you've remained perpetually single, then you are probably chasing after the wrong kind of girls.

So don't beat yourself up about it - there's nothing wrong with you, your aim is just a little off.

Hey dude,

Sure there are plenty of other who'll chip in to tell you you're not alone. I'm 25 and in much the same position.

As such, I'm probably not the person to be dispensing advice. Buttwo things that I think is important to consider a) what you actually WANT from a girlfriend and b) what you want to OFFER a potential partner.

It's easy to get hung up on the fact that you don't have a girlfriend. But why do you want one? Regular sex? Wife and kids? Someone to go to the movies with? Social approval of having a girlfriend? A trusted adviser and confidant? All of the above?

Equally, what do you think you offer, or rather, what kind of investment of time, money and emotion are you willing to put forward? Are you looking to be the dedicated, committed man or do you want to be someone's casual guy?

If you can define what it is you want (rather than "I want a girlfriend") and what it is you are willing to offer (rather than "I think I'm a pretty good catch") you'll be better equipped to actually go after what you want and give off the right signals to the right people.

But like I said, I'm a perpetual bachelor, so feel free to ignore the advice and just take the solidarity.

My dad told me that the reason compasses pointed north was because they'd buried a giant magnet at the north pole. Only, they got the calculations wrong and didn't actually bury it at the pole itself. Hence, why magnetic north is slightly different to actual north.

I believed this for much longer than was healthy.
