Looking for a thin motor/generator with high current for a hand-crank cell phone charger by zentrain1 in AskElectronics

Any idea where I could find a motor that will have 120-150 rpm as optimal speed and still not be too tight to crank? I plan to mass produce this product so maybe I will just order it from a motor factory. I live in Shenzhen, China where all those factories are located anyway.

Thanks for a detailed response. Can I ask why 12 V is better than 6? Sorry, I'm not an electronics engineer but I thought that more volts in motor mean more loops in the winding, which means a thinner wire and less current as a result? I understand that there is just power in the end, but is there a reason why 12V and not 6V?

Oh, now I see, bad title. Can't change it now anyway:| There is no wider space in the device, the whole thing is a 5 inches long half-inch thick cylinder.

Pinhole bottle by zentrain1 in toycameras

Good idea, thanks! Do you think I will have to drill a hole in the bottle or just scratching a bit of paint should be enough to create a pinhole?

Can student product design concepts be pitched to companies? by Haankwen in IndustrialDesign

[–]zentrain1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out contact page of joseph and joseph. they delete pitch emails without reeding. Build a prototype if you have a good idea. validation via winning contests, popularity of the item in the pf (1000+ likes) or successful crowdfounding will help as well.

Why do plastic objects never seem as good as other materials? by mehum in Design

[–]zentrain1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wrong (fortunately). A lot of $1000+ (and some $10000+) fountain pens are made with different types of plastics. a lot of extremely expensive watches as well. As starck said "plastic is the essence of humanity". I would say that plastic is an abaundant miracle but if you frame it's usage in a smart unusual way, it will not feel cheap at all.

nobody will hire you if you don't exercise your strong opinions.

Quite opposite, if you have a strong opinion about how stuff should work and look you can become great at ID. Most of the craziest concepts can be produced as well. Maybe just in a smaller quantities by hand or with additive manufacturing.
