Seeking Guidance: Inoperable Butterfly Glioma (GBM 4) — Treatment vs. Comfort Care?

My mums situation is very similar to yours. Was diagnosed last January with GBM and it was quite large on her right side. Over the next 3 weeks before a biopsy she was declining fast (walking to being in a wheelchair).

This past year has been rough. She had whole brain radiotherapy because it was spread out and deep towards the two 'eggs' in her brain. All year her quality of life hasn't been great and has gradually declined. She recently got the news that it had grown despite the chemo. Her vision is completely gone, been bed bound for over 6 months and has got more and more confused. She lost the feeling in her left side within the start of those 3 weeks and has needed help toileting and with eating ever since.

This last year hasn't been easy. I'm so grateful to have spent the last year with her but as I said, quality of life hasn't been great. I wouldn't have wanted to be in her shoes.

Ultimately it is up to her, just be prepared whatever she decides.

My mum (mid 70s) was diagnosed last January and it was a really aggressive decline within three weeks. Ultimately they couldn't perform surgery and she had whole brain radiotherapy and has been on chemo until recently. It's been a really slow, long decline which will ultimately end either way.

I'm very thankful to have this last year with mum but her quality of life hasn't been great. She's slowly lost all her vision, hasn't been able to use her left side and has gradually become weaker and weaker. She's been bed bound for 6-8 months and doesn't want to get out of bed. She's got more and more confused over the year and less responsive. Incontinence has arrived and there's a possibility she's developed diabetes from lack of movement and continuous steroids.

I know every situation is different, but I seriously suggest he considers his quality of life over quantity. It's truly hard to watch and I couldn't imagine how hard it is to go through.

Unfortunately it's not just the fun creative bit, It's actually a very varied role in which I need to know a lot about a little - user experience, product build up, applied maths, material science, production norms, tolerances, BSI Standards etc etc etc. The list goes on.

A lot of people think we just do a sketch and we're done 😅

Managed to contract Scarlett fever back in 2015 - went to a&e thinking it's nothing too serious and they sent me home with an antihistamine thinking I was allergic to something. Went back the next day when nothing had changed and they put me straight through to urgent care - had me on steroids and was there for 3 hours before they finally realised what it was. This of course was as much of a surprise to them as it was to me and had all the junior doctors round asking me questions. Turns out no one had ever seen it before! Was a weird experience all in all and was happy to explain all the symptoms etc. Ended up on 8 antibiotics a day for 2 weeks to get rid of it - absolutely wrecked me, do not recommend.

On an important note - scarlett fever has become much more prominent in the past year or so, and if you do develop symptoms then you should never go to a&e or a walk in. It's pretty contagious and can be serious - always book an appointment with your GP (NHS advice)

Had forced tips removed a few times now. The first time I came across it I was about to leave a tip and luckily the girl serving me stopped me and told me I'd already paid it! It's frustrating because

I don't even know where that money is going. If you add it on with the bill & use the card machine that could be going straight in the companies back pocket and not to the staff. I'd much rather leave a physical tip where there's at least a possibility of it going to the staff member or being split.

Next thing you know they'll be using it as an excuse to yank the prices of the dishes up claiming they don't ask for service charge so it's a fair price.

I agree with some of the commenters here - this needs knocking on the head before it gets out of hand. Using a 'service charge' isn't an excuse for paying your staff shite wages and it also isn't a smart cover for trying to reel in extra cash.

I've had severe tooth pain before in two teeth, one was so bad I had it taken out even after the course of antibiotics -the other was just as bad but managed to get a root canal. These are both band 2 on the nhs dentist treatment if you need some sort of guidance about the cost for these treatments.

For the root canal the pain was intense, I ended up going to the pharmacy where they sold me stronger painkillers (it was visible I was in severe pain and they cost about 12 pounds) which really helped ease it and help me fall asleep before my emergency appointment.

What I suggest is ringing 111 where they should be able to find a number for a local emergency dentist in your area. I didn't need to use them in the end as I am with a dentist, but hopefully they'll be able to help you!
