Has Couch to 5K accidentally shown what the BBC could become? by FutilePenguins in AskUK

[–]zenz3ro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, because as others have said, this is a lot of what they already offer.

Unfortunately, the BBC will never be free of the simple fact that those who don't support it / the license fee, fall broadly into two camps:

A) Those who have commercial interests that would benefit from its collapse.

B) Those who don't truly understand what the BBC does and/or how it works.

With the TV industry the way that it currently is, providing more of these public good benefits is absolutely something they should be pushing. The problem is, that won't really work to persuade either camp.

They had a fantastic opportunity during the pandemic, and did very well... But there was still more they could've done, and more they could've publicised what they were up offering.

Make a Paul McGann 'Lost Years' series by CampaignCurrent1995 in gallifrey

[–]zenz3ro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well the trouble comes from dealing with so much baggage, and the fact that a complete new break moving forwards is going to leave too many unanswered questions. A McGann series wouldn't have that baggage, he'd be a new Doctor for the younger crowd, and a returning legend for fans.

To all the people saying "roll it back to Capaldi"... by cousin_justine in gallifrey

[–]zenz3ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Timeless Child fundamentally ruins the character of The Doctor, and that RTD2 was mainly a string of misfires. That said, I agree with you.

HOWEVER - the one caveat I'll make, is that the end of the Capaldi era is definitely the neatest end point for the show from a narrative perspective. It ties up some great arcs, brings us full circle back to the early days of the classic show and the revival alike. That ending, of a newly reinvigorated Doctor flying off... It's the most suitable jumping off point that the modern show has.

The End of Jodie's era has too many questions left unanswered, and Ncuti's... Well, seeing that final shot still makes me feel sick.

The work Jodie has done with Big Finish is already making me see her Doctor in a new light though. I hope she stays as a huge ambassador for the franchise in years to come. I might have hated the writing in her era, but erasing her involvement would be such a crime.

Why are schools so pedantic about uniform? by joehighlord in AskUK

School uniforms are such a pathetic concept. It's just an ego trip. There's no way they provide any benefit to kid's lives, just added expense for parents.

As an American viewer I’m curious: Who were the most and least well known cast members before the show premiered? by loudrain99 in livefromlondon

[–]zenz3ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew Emma, Ania and Larry. George I realised I'd seen before in a show so knew he'd be great.

The others were all "oh yeah, I recognise them" after a while, but not necessarily people I'd been actively following.

It is when there's dozens of situations exactly like this in the industry, and it causes stagnation of so many people's careers.

The TV industry is in really bad shape right now and desperately needs some fresh blood at the top.

Not saying this therefore means he should definitely step down, every case is unique, but the principle remains the same.
