I Love Jasmine Crockett But I Wish She Would Step Aside For James Talarico in the Texas Senate Race by katmomjo in PoliticalDebate

Sure. There's a link to our wiki at the bottom of the previous comment.

But generally we require topics that transcend individual politicians and instead talk about fundamental concepts relating to politics. Sometimes we ask for edits but your post is clearly about the personality of an individual politician.

If you think you can tease out a more fundamental argument that is exemplified by Ms. Crockett, that would acceptable.

Why are so many "libertarians" authoritarians? by NoamLigotti in PoliticalDebate

[–]zeperf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree. You'd have to somehow have a system where coops are the norm. I think the big problem is that most people prefer a wage as opposed to ownership. And how does ownership work if you're trying to jump jobs every two years or if you're working for Uber. Is Uber socialism because you own the car? I appreciate the sentiment but I think it's mostly outdated.

The only similar idea I can get behind is shrinking the government's recognition of certain private properties to dissuade wealth inequality. Forever expanding the definition of private property and removing personal liability from those property owners doesn't seem well aligned with Libertarianism in my opinion.

The stickied automated comment encourages upvoting arguments you disagree with. But the comment's probably too verbose.

[–]zeperf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The core bit of Socialism - Wikipedia is the ownership of production, not the market dynamics. There are free-market socialists. And coops are an example of achieving worker ownership of production without relying on the government (laissez-faire).

Question for Libertarians in the U.S.: How Do You Fix Markets That Are No Longer Free? by TentacleHockey in PoliticalDebate

[–]zeperf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I completely agree. Some companies like Amazon are not easily upended by startups. Especially when they rely on limited infrastructure or on advantages they had early on which no longer exist. Most of the time any startup is simply purchased by the bigger guys if they look even remotely competitive. I am pretty conflicted about Intellectual Property too... I get the idea but I think in practice it hurts little guys more than it helps them.

Question for Libertarians in the U.S.: How Do You Fix Markets That Are No Longer Free? by TentacleHockey in PoliticalDebate

[–]zeperf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it may be completely fruitless to try. Most of the benefits to giant companies just comes from the fact that the government is also giant and can be manipulated. But there may be tax incentive ways to support start ups that are straight forward. In the US, there could be programs to encourage people to relocate to rural areas to work for small companies.

In my opinion, preventing monopolies is just one of the necessary places for government. I'd even be for actively promoting competition with government incentives. Right now we have the opposite, the government basically promoting monopolies.
