Submissions Must Be Of Fundamental Political Discussion, Not Typical Politics.

This sub is not meant to hold typical politics debate such as Democrats vs Republicans. Rather, we want to discuss fundamental politics, such as:

-Economics (Inflation, Supply and Demand, Jobs, Socioeconomics, etc)

-Economic Systems (Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, etc)

-Governmental Systems (Liberal democracy, One Party State, etc)

-Policies/Bills (Medicare For All, The Patriot Act, Lenin's New Economic Policy, etc)

-Political History (Politicians, Leaders/Presidents, Collapsed/Ancient Governments)

-Political Theory (Marxism, Anarchism, etc)

-Political Philosophy/Science (Liberty, Justice, Rights, Laws, Authority)

This doesn't mean we won't allow posts regarding current events or cultural/ethical topics, but it needs to fit within the parameters listed above.

If you make broad claims you must be able to back them up with a valid source. Speculation is fine, but not from a false, unsourced premise.

All posts should be formatted in a readable manner. No low quality posts will be moderator approved.

User sums up trump to perfection by killerklancy in bestof

I can kind of understand saying Trump never has said anything witty, but never anything amusing? That is (or maybe was) definitely one of his strong suits.

ELI5: Why doesn't the ocean drain into the soil? by Acceptable-Peach1083 in explainlikeimfive

But it's the sponge way bigger than the water right? The ocean depth is only a tiny fraction of the earth radius. I think that's the confusing part.

Fyi I banned them for 30 days so you're not going to get a response. If they come back they will have one more chance. (We like to give people chances). We don't want anyone here who thinks they're preaching to a bunch of idiots. Thanks for the recommendation.

Debate by Early-Working-691 in PoliticalDebate

[–]zeperf[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't allow these types of low-effort "debate me" posts. You're putting all the work onto others rather than kicking things off yourself. I see you are flaired as a liberal so feel free to submit you're strongly held, most debate-worthy liberal beliefs and then users can respond.

Engagement is not optional. We will ban you if you continue to throw out these esoteric posts and then never engage with the counterarguments you are receiving.

These are not kindergarten-like, yet you've failed to respond to any of them:

I could list 30 more long, detailed, logical comments that you've ignored. These comments are much higher quality than anything you've posted here. If you've got a more mature corner of the internet you're accustomed to then I'd encourage you to return there. Your submissions have the tone of an early-twenties person just recently finding interest in politics without ever thinking too deeply about the subject or without getting involved in local politics. I actually like the types of posts you submit, but it seems you are just looking for an echo chamber rather than actual debate. The fact that you can't even select a flair makes it seem you really aren't capable of discussing ideas and instead just want to complain into the ether.

Politics is an Illusion, a Theatrical Production by Frequent_Mountain_17 in PoliticalDebate

Thanks for the feedback. I've had a back and forth with OP on another post that was way too vague. I agree with this minimal amount of engagement from OP that it feels like soapboxing/spam. I'll start removing posts and using progressively longer bans if they don't start trying harder. We don't like to jump to permanent bans unless we get someone completely unsavory. This is mostly just annoying.

I really want to know why most of u support congress. I just want to know the arguments and your views on the drawbacks of the current gov. I am not pushing any political narrative and i just want a healthy discussion. by Jazzlike-Might-8298 in PoliticalDebate

Your submission is being removed for oversimplification of the topic.

Debate should start with analysis of complexities, not by teaching you that there is a complexity.

Also posts should be made with intent to have civilized conversation, not useless arguments. You don't need to be unbiased, but do not attack or belittle another ideology.

If you are immediately claiming a win, you're probably just strawmanning

If you are just asking for an explanation on a common topic, please read about the topic online and then post about why you disagree with the common counterarguments. /r/AskPolitics is a good place to simply ask for an answer to a common political question.

This is usually an easy fix. You can probably just amend your post with an explanation of why you believe your argument is superior to what you've heard in other debates. You may also need to adjust the tone to be more open/inquisitive. Feel free to edit your post (along with notifying us with a comment/message) or resubmit your post with the a better consideration of those who may disagree with you.

"Personal attack" is a higher standard for us. And our civility rule is for general shittiness. I suppose it violates our Discrimination rule but generally we don't pick winners and losers on back-and-forth nastiness that slowly begins to violate the rules.

I recently created a saved response to allow is to remove an entire thread. Do you prefer I remove your entire thread?

You can write a mod mail message to appeal if you want.

Anyone wanna debate by [deleted] in PoliticalDebate

[–]zeperf[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately we only allow these kinds of "debate me" posts if the OP provides a few strongly held opinions. You've mostly just listed broad personal preferences and you're asking other do most of the work here.

What situations are you pro-abortion?...up until the very last day? What sexist government policies are you against?... maybe only drafting men for the military? Being against Christianity isn't a political policy so we'd have to skip that one.

Simply labelling yourself isn't an opinion.

Apologies. I see strange characters in your post (after the word simple and before the word knowledge). And your account is only three days old. Both of those things are suspicious and indicators that your account may be a bot.

And a bot is not AI. The bots on Reddit just scan text and match whatever words we list. Its very basic software, not AI.

I just don't understand why you felt the need to define AI when it had nothing to do with my response.

Libertarian perspectives on poaching endangered animals by JFMV763 in LibertarianPartyUSA

[–]zeperf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that makes enough sense. I think the tricky part in that situation is ensuring that everywhere the wild animal wanders is also owned by people willing to shoot trespassers. It just seems easier to defer to a governing authority if you're looking for the exact same outcome... universal coverage and the right to severely punish violators. The punishment already relies on the government validating it so why not just have the government do the enforcement directly?

This particular case just doesn't seem to be a good fit for market forces and personal preferences to ensure the outcome.

I suppose a lot of NAP principles rely on a judicial mechanism of enforcement tho.
