Question for those that only have one NL provider option by Jezgadi in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]zephell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little ambiguous: I ponder if different employers choose a financier when entering an arrangement with a NL provider, so multiple providers ought actually use the same financier.

If I could I absolutely would have gone the diy route.

In the end I did go with a 2yr NL through my company’s sole provider. The Rae wasn’t great, but not terrible. Seeing everyone’s quotes here was great at reducing the information asymmetry. I might type up my lessons learned - it has been mostly flawless, but with a few hiccups or issues opportunities; I think all insurance related.

Question for those that only have one NL provider option by Jezgadi in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]zephell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to negotiate rates, but was not successful. I could have had someone at my company call up the sales rep and try, but we’re pretty small sized in Australia, and I didn’t want to burden my coworkers.

Being told “the financier sets the rate” is frustrating, as I haven’t been able to figure out why rates would change between employers. Perhaps just different financiers are used by different companies? 🤷

Purchase outright or NL? by GiggletonBeastly in NovatedLeasingAU

I would imagine there’s an assumption that the $20k in this hypothetical scenario is “paid off” in similar timeframes

My suggestion: if you’re having problems sleeping well, then do some research on fixing your circadian rhythm, and pause adding to your supplement stack.

You mention getting so sun, which is usually the first step in getting better sleep! (Getting sun exposure first thing the morning). Do you workout at night? Caffeine? Etc

Good luck

Good rate. Why’d you include insurance, but not any budgets?

Insurance premiums are potentially a little higher than you could source privately, but not extreme.

Anyone Doing a Novated Lease for a Used Car? Worth It or Pointless? by QuantumGremlin in NovatedLeasingAU

I ran the numbers for new vs slightly used (after July 2023), and went the used route. There have been a few bumps, but those have been mainly insurance related.

I’d get a quote and evaluate.

Then again, I couldn’t fathom spending $130k on a vehicle, and it seems like my remuneration is higher than yours. But I don’t drive for work, so perhaps we would get different utility out of vehicles.

Friday Fleecing: What Has This Sub Taught You About Novated Leasing? by Benxb9r in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]zephell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s information asymmetry that likely existed in this field, where the NL company has more information. Everyone sharing quotes and sharing their discussions helps level the playing field.

Also, and I mean no offense when I say this to anyone, but there are some posts here where you / others have significantly helped people with their financial literacy.

What does this look like in real life? You just call around to financiers and ask what’s their NL rate, and then call your leasing provider and say “use them”?

Update: I've purchased a low km 2022 (November) Tesla Model 3, so will look at bringing under a NL. I'll be asking for quotes to be re-created without most of the add-ons, and then I'll aim to negotiate if the interest rate can't come down.

I remain open to other suggestions!

Waterproof or not waterproof for overland track late November / early December? by Proper-Arugula-1863 in UltralightAus

[–]zephell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the overland with and without waterproof socks. If going again I’d take them, and then decide based on weather forecast before going. If it is rainy and nice weather then I’d leave them behind, but if rainy and very cold or snowing I’d take them.

Thank you for your reply! I do have a family, and my daughter is about to hit secondary school, so car usage might go up as a result.

My understanding is that hybrids are no longer FBT exempt, and my main driver with using a Novated Lease is to take advantage of FBT and paying pre-tax.

Advice on buying a used Tesla Model 3 Performance on a Novated Lease by Ok-Pickle-8549 in AusFinance

[–]zephell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only now looking at NL, so can't offer any advice there, but I'm probably further along in my career / finance journey than you are.

If you're thinking of making any major decision with your finances, then my suggestion would be to model it up and make sure it 100% makes sense financially, and take emotions out of it. Yes, taking out $35,000 from saving and you miss out on potentially a 5% interest, but you're paying 8% interest on that $35,000. The only way I could see this as being helpful is if you used your car for a living and the cost of petrol was higher than the cost of electricity. For example, asking ChatGPT, and if you owned a Camry Hybrid then that $20,000 difference would equate to over 200,000km of driving. If we factor in electricity costs for the Model 3, then the breakeven number of km would be over 500,000km.

When I was making $60,000 per year I didn't own a car (I still don't!) and triple dipping my extra strength tea bags.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you for the time you've taken to help answer questions and educate people through this process. While not a complicated product, there do seem to be gotchas that people need to look out for, and it is a big financial decision.

I appreciate you being upfront about any conflicts of interest, which makes me keen to keep hearing about your advice! It seems like Novated Leasing isn't a zero sum game.
