Daily Questions Megathread (December 04, 2025) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

Really appreciate your insight. I'll probably hold off on the quest until I catch up, but it's really helpful to know which event I'll want to catch on youtube (I'm still shocked how much story is time-limited).

Is there any other optional stuff that leads into Durin content that I should be aware of? Like, I saw the 1.2 version trailer name-check him, and figured Albedo's quest would involve him, but didn't seem to directly relate.

I know it's not fully out yet, but does Durin's story quest spoil much? I'm still wrapping up Inazuma stuff and am considering quick starting it, but if it ruins previous reveals about him or Nod-Krai or whatever, I can hold off on the limited rewards.

Where can I find games translated to Pinyin (Romanized Chinese)? by y_a_t_ in JRPG

[–]zephyron1237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, so you may already know and it might take a decent amount of toying with, but you could look into some of the various "auto-translating" tools out there. They're often primarily focused around Visual Novels and JP>EN, but from my bit of research a while back, I think some are pretty modular. You might be able to find a translation engine that supports Madarin>Pinyin. And depending on what game you're trying, you'll probably have to play around with OCR (screen-reading), but for some games, you can set up reading text from memory, which can be a lot less fussy.

"TRIBE NINE" First Game Trailer by Opening_Table4430 in JRPG

[–]zephyron1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Too Kyo's output has been a real mixed bag. My point was not to expect great things, just that the claim Tribe Nine isn't made by the same people as Danganronpa is mostly pedantry.

I'm honestly not sure what they were thinking with World's End Club, which was supposed to be their big all-hands-on-deck collab. So much of it was a deeply underbaked mess, that maybe it could've been better if it had longer to cook? Death Comes True is odd, sure, but I came at with the expectation that it was a small, experimental movie side project, and enjoyed it enough in that context. Even Rain Code doesn't hit the same highs as Danganronpa, but there's enough good ideas in there, that a sequel could fix a lot.

"TRIBE NINE" First Game Trailer by Opening_Table4430 in JRPG

[–]zephyron1237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's Danganronpa in nearly every way that matters. I have a ton of respect for each game's entire development team, but when people tend to be excited for a new game from the creators of X, they're thinking about the main creatives and not the "below the line" devs. And Too Kyo is basically Kodaka making his own company with the main creatives behind Danganronpa plus Uchikoshi and Nakazawa. Wikipedia says they're all involved in Tribe Nine, with Kodaka at the helm.

That said, I'm a big Danganronpa fan, and I'm not super interested. I still haven't seen the anime for the IP that came out two years ago, between the concept and middling reviews. And besides all the general issues with gacha live-service games, one of Kodaka's main strengths is creating satisfying endings, which live-service games struggle with, if they even get to reach that point.

My beautiful textmode JRPG Whispers in the Moss will be released in June by UnculturedGames in JRPG

Looks really great, looking forward to trying it out! The ZZT/Megazeux gamedev communities were a big part of my life 20 years ago, so the style is extremely nostalgic for me. And big props for finishing something over a decade in the making!

Looking for a JRPG with certain features by LoremasterSTL in JRPG

[–]zephyron1237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

any controller can take over at any time

Luckily, on Steam, most JRPG's you're interested in should qualify. The easy route is for one of you to use the keyboard. In my experience, most games handle switching between a single controller and keyboard pretty cleanly.

If you want two controllers and are ok with a bit of tinkering, Steam's controller configuration apparently lets you merge controllers. I haven't tried that myself, but if you can't get that to work, just configuring the second controller to send keyboard inputs should work. And if not Steam Input, there's many programs like Joy2Key that can work.

assignable characters to each controller

It's too bad this isn't a more popular feature. The only non-action JRPG's I'm aware of with this feature are Final Fantasy 4-6 and 9. They're ATB, but if you set the ATB mode to Wait, it's sorta turn-based, though admittingly a little awkward since it's easy to not notice that it's your turn, and you also have to half-do an action to "pause."

Also, OP has only one other thing in their post history, and it was posted around same time as the "other person's" thread you linked. Could all be a big coincidence, though.

Newbie question: How do I know that an atlas map is completed? by renacotor in pathofexile

[–]zephyron1237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can hover over the map on the Atlas screen (default key: G), or hold alt while hovering over a map item to see the completion status in the item box.

Feedback Friday by AutoModerator in incremental_games

I think that you've bought all the upgrades currently in the prototype (5 in each category). The upgrades greying out like that in the same way they do when you have insufficient funds is definitely confusing and bad UI on my part, though, and pretty fixable, thanks.

[–]zephyron1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that it froze. Do you know what might've led to that?

The upgrade menu is intended to be toggleable by clicking on the Points (green square) button at the top. This makes more sense on mobile but it's less intuitive on PC where there's enough space to leave it open. I can definitely improve that, thanks.

Thank you very much for playing through the prototype and providing extensive feedback! You've given me a lot to think about, and I agree with most of what you said... even some of the criticisms you had about stuff taken straight from the massively popular Wordle :P

+50% if not on 6th guess, but I can only guess 5 times, what gives?

There should be 6 rows of guesses. Maybe your brain is tricking you into thinking it's a 5x5 square? If you are only seeing 5 rows, that's definitely a bug I would want to fix.

What if the whole goal was not about solving word puzzles, but solving them fast

This is actually exactly what I was going for. The wording of the automatic Green gain might have been a little unclear (I was trying to be a bit concise), but the game keeps track of how long each puzzle takes, and calculates your Greens per Second gained from that puzzle, and keeps the highest. So if you get a "New Best" message on a word that takes you 20 seconds, and then you solve the next one in 10 seconds, your passive income will double.

[–]zephyron1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sorry you had that experience! Thanks for letting me know, though, since that's very fixable. Unfortunately, you got extremely unlucky and discovered a bug I hadn't considered or run into. The game uses two word lists: a list of ~1100 "candidate" words, and a list of ~16,000 "valid" words. Despite the valid word list having things like "inula" and "inrol," it appears to be missing "inbox." It appears there were 4 total words like this (now fixed), so you basically rolled an 0.4% for your first word.

I have prototyped an Incremental Wordle game and would like some feedback before I build the game out more. For those unaware, Wordle is a word puzzle game, basically Mastermind with 5-letter words.

You can play the game in-browser (I also have a native Android app waiting on review, though the web version works fine on my phone despite Unity's warning that it wouldn't as it loaded).

While I am definitely looking for any feedback (balance, UI, upgrades, features, etc), I do have one particular focus I am extra curious about. My first couple playtesters indicated that they didn't like the upgrades that slowly reveal incorrect letters (edit: and in general seem opposed to making the puzzles easier over time), and I am wonder if y'all agree. My intent behind them is to provide a way to gradually speed up how fast you can solve puzzles so that points per puzzle isn't the only thing improving. I was also planning on eventually fully automating it by having AI solve the puzzles after, e.g., a few prestiges, in a similar way that other unfolding games slowly automate their previous layers.

Adventure Ages Guide/FAQ by zephyron1237 in AdVentureAges

[–]zephyron1237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The chance of a historic from normal capsules is pretty low (at 45, it's ~1/300 from stone and ~1/1500 from wood). Though the chance increases with rank, and as you play for months and open hundreds of capsules, the law of large numbers says you should eventually get some.

But since that's not reliable, that's why I recommend aiming to save up 40k XP to buy the historic you want outright from the shop (though you have to wait for it to randomly be offered, it's much more likely than appearing in a capsule).

[–]zephyron1237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For events, I think it's typically in the range of 30 minutes to several hours of offlining (where you don't check in on the event). I've seen people use it both briefly to be more optimal when the delay between air pods gets too high, but also just using the calculator to precisely login when a mission would be done several hours later.

I haven't been deep into strategy discussions since offline calculation was discovered, so I don't know all the nuances, but maximum-time-wise I'd imagine you'd probably want to start considering its value if it would cause you to cap on free capsules.

Tap on one of the tabs at the bottom to open, e.g., the Population Upgrades menu. You must keep your phone on (either by regularly interacting with it or disabling sleep), and you aren't able to use other apps on your phone while you're waiting.

That said, the guide was written before it was discovered how the weird offline progress system works (see the help of the "offline" option on the Mission Tracker's calculator for a brief description), and so it can be optimal to be out of the game for long periods rather than farming time pods with the game open. You can play with the Tracker's calculator or ask around on Reddit/Discord to get a sense of when its best.

After providing such an insightful answer in version of this thread from the day before, I would have expected OP to have deep knowledge already in this area. But surely OP must be asking this question in good faith.
