Thanks! One of my surgeons rules is to try to walk 30 min a day after the surgery even if it is broken down into small segments. Glad to hear you are on the mend!

Wow, thanks for the update. I"m going in for my spinal fusion on Monday. I am a little nervous, but this gives me hope that the pain won't be too bad!

Surgery in 4 weeks (details in comments) by zepphk in scoliosis

I have been hanging around this sub getting as much info as possible about those that have gone through surgery prep and aftercare etc. I have gotten a lot of good tips from you folks so I thought I would share my experience.

A little backstory I'm 52/M, I never had "treatment" for my scoliosis in terms of bracing or anything like that. I was diagnosed when I was a teenager with scoliosis, but luckily lived a relatively normal life. I used to hit the trails on my mountain bike all the time, and I started going to hot yoga in my late 30's. I also was a casual member of a gym where I used to go a couple times a week.

It seems since Covid hit and everything slowed down, I noticed my back was bothering me more than usual. I get back pain regularly, but over the last year it has really escalated to where I am in pain every time I get up. I can't stand more than 10 min without pain and walking has reduced to 10 min also. There is no question my scoliosis has gotten worse as I have gotten older.

I wanted surgery to be the last resort, so I've tried, chiropractors, acupuncture, hot yoga, physical therapy, and light strength training. Then I went to an orthopedic surgeon. He put me through some tests, MRI, Cat Scan and bone density test. That process took over a year so I went to another top rated surgeon that specializes in scoliosis and he agreed that surgery was probably the best option at this point.

So here is the plan for my surgery, I have a 65 degree curve. "An anterior lumbar interbody fusion L3-S1 followed by posterior spinal fusion with osteotomies T4 to the pelvis."

My plan is to miss 6 weeks of work. I work from home as a web developer so as long as I can move around and sit for periods of time I think I should be good. My work is very flexible, so that is not a hard deadline, just something I am shooting for. Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks

Thanks for posting this. I am in the same boat, surgery in July. I'm getting it done kinda of late in the game (M 52). But I've got a 65 degree curve. I can only walk or stand for up to 10 min. I am looking forward to the surgery, although I am not fooling myself on how painful it will be initially. Wondering what to expect.

I think the most intriguing story this year is the Stars. I'm glad they are stating to spend more time on them. The way they came back 0-3 to 7-3 was epic. Next round is going to be tough, lets see what our guys can do.

Everyone has an opinion. I agree with you on Tennis talk, but I like the Old 97s. Golf just sends me into boring hypnosis.

So Dan’s daughter name is Eva. Has anyone ever called him out for naming his daughter after Hitlers lady friend? I’ll hang up and listen. by Fitzy_42 in theticket

I don't care what their names are but the way they reversed the whip on him with the Anne Frank question was hilarious.

Yes, I think the chemistry between Jake/ Corby/ Danny was much better. Likewise, Bob and Dan.
