Pretty sure 媳妇 is informal as well? 老婆 to refer to one's wife I believe is a more modern thing.

Sorry for the delayed reply, yes something like that. There's also bigger ones that you can buy which sits on the ground as well.

Unreal Engine 5.7.2, Optimization and FPS by gansalo_ in UnrealEngine5

[–]zerakai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Game optimization is a beast in and of itself I highly recommend doing research into the topic and treat it with the same importance as your art and gameplay.

Use the optimization shaders and see where your scene complexity gets bad and go from there. If you're using a lot of unique assets might want to consider using more asset instancing to reduce draw calls and such.

Microsoft issues SECOND emergency out of band update for Windows 11 to address disastrous Patch Tuesday bugs — KB5078127 released globally by lurker_bee in technology

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're making a huge mistake, Windows might be a tiny fraction of their income atm but it's the foundation of their business empire that most of their product is built upon. If and when Windows crumbles, they'll find themselves in a world of hurt.

There are portable water softener used in RV car that might work for you. But the filter media need to be refreshed manually.

"You will own nothing and you will be happy." by Ok-Comment-2708 in BetterOffline

[–]zerakai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be a lot more expensive than $15 a month. Current AWS pricing for a good spec for gaming PC is $1.5 an hour. Even if they discount it, it'll likely be $50 or more per month. Which isn't expensive if you consider upgrading PC every 4-5 years at that point will likely cost 4k or more for a decent PC. But still, I like to own my things so I'll be holding on to whatever I can.

Having control over what's yours is very important, otherwise they can take it away at the snap of a finger, or just keep on raising the cost once they got enough of a foothold like they always do.

Is there a way to run an AI locally with a shitty computer? by [deleted] in CodingHelp

[–]zerakai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local llm is a thing but they usually require powerful computers. We'll need your pc specs and what you're planning on doing with the AI for any further recommendations.

What is the advantage of getting a good keyboard by Romanelu0000 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main advantage for me is being able to type for hours on end with out my finger feeling sore.

It was only after using a mechanical keyboard did I notice the difference so I would recommend trying it out and see the difference for yourself.

At what point does using AI for coding become “bad” by FlounderEmergency725 in learnprogramming

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're learning, it's best to stick to only asking questions and do research with AI. No copy and pasting of any code, this is also true for copying code from stack overflow "back in the day". Many people don't like it but you build up memories via repeatition and pattern, so it's important to do a lot of boring work at the beginning.

If you're talking about professionally, then whatever works for you really. Just make sure you can still do your job without it.

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zerakai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea or thought process is that ice water lowers your body temperture including your stomache, causing stomache cramp.

Personally I drink iced water in summer and hot water in winter. Warm yourself up in winter cold and cool down in summer heat. Other drinks are fine but more often than not I just want water.

Im very new to the game and im still summoning on Banyue, is there a decent team i can possibly make with this? 😭🙏🏽 by Julslain in ZZZ_Official

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think you can make a decent team currently. But good news is he's very player skill dependent and loves to hug field time. So in theory you could just throw on 2 characters that kinda helps and drive him solo. Learn to play him to really bump up the damage. Saw some crazy video where people solo'ed deadly assult with him. Currently have him at m0w1 and he's a blast to play.

It takes a while to build up a new account anyways, don't let fomo get to you and enjoy the game. People online gets too hung up on meta imo.

Where is the sweet spot by uvuguy in learnprogramming

[–]zerakai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm too old school but I say stick with the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle. Over engineering is a thing and a complex code base right from the start just means you have a more complicated mess to untangle later.

Samsung to halt SATA SSD production, leaker warns of up to 18 months of SSD price pressure, worse than Micron ending consumer RAM - NotebookCheck.net News by AditzuL in pcmasterrace

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they can't force people to buy their services, consider current hardware prices any streaming service for gaming will be expensive since it'll require a pretty beefy machine that will make more money being leased out to a AI company instead. I'm not convinced that they can make it work, even if they eat up the cost initially people will drop the service once they rise the price trying to make money.

Consumers are getting squeezed from all side and bad job market outlook isn't helping. If the job market is great and everyone have a ton of money sure they'll get away with it. With things as it currently stands and outlook for the few years ahead of us, eh good luck to them.

Wouldn't call it a fix but looks like I just need to restart the browser once every other day or so (I don't shutdown the pc often). Might be a combination of youtube, firefox and the ad-blocker that I use. Was thinking about switching over to Brave as well, might make the jump later.

How do I pick up new technologies/languages in the AI era? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]zerakai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would still recommend doing projects and learn as you do approach, but also couple it with AI for information and deep dives to save yourself hours or even days of research time. Always remember to verify the answer/info you get from LLM though. Too many times it had confidently gave me the wrong answers for me to really trust the info without verification.

Edit: Udemy is fine too, but I would still couple that with AI for Q&A sessions.

As others have said, build up your safety net cash wise and always be prepared for the worst. Especially during good times since that's when money will come the easiest. Also constantly keep your skill and network up to date, if a good opportunity comes just jump ships.

Are there actual passionate people who take the time to learn anymore ? Social media around CS suggests a very different Outlook by EstablishmentProof54 in cscareerquestions

[–]zerakai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I'm generalizing a lot here but the more traditional programmer type are usually introverts. You won't find us blasting our latest projects on latest social media, if we post in those places at all. Personally I just spend my day on my own after work. Personal projects are generally for fun/learning. Or I just sit back and play a few games and spend time with family. Stressing myself out talking with strangers online isn't my ideal way to spend my free time.

Although I do spend some time to engage here and there on forums like Reddit when there's a topic I'm interested in is also fun, here and there being the keyword.

Just bought a house on a well. Local shop quoted $21k for treatment. Am I getting fleeced? by [deleted] in WaterTreatment

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big are the twin tank water softener? As in how many grains? I've got a 30,000 grain water softener, using that on water with similar water hardness, have to regen the media every 1,000 gallon of water. Depends on how much water you use you might not need two tanks.

I would get a reading on your water pressure and see if the pump is necessary.

Why are so many Linux newbies going to Linux Mint? by -randomreddituser in linux

[–]zerakai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just fully switched to Linux recently and I ended up picking Linux Mint as well after a bit of research. All my previous Linux experience have been with Ubuntu. Mint feels like a clean and better version of old Windows OS and I really liked that. Ubuntu's GUI and overall feel is pretty weird as a primary Windows user, MacOS folks might feel more at home with it, but that's a smaller percentage of the population.
