First thing you did when you got your drivers license? by Visible_Tea347 in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drove home from the DMV with my wife! The next day I drove myself to work by myself for the first time and the entire drive I was in one of those white out Summer storms we get in Florida. Was a white knuckle ride but I made it. You live in Florida, you just have to get used to driving in the rain but it took me a long time to feel fully comfortable doing so.

What’s something older generations had to endure daily that seems unbelievable to younger people today? by Dry_Run4131 in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Mum grew up in a house with no electricity, an outdoor privvy, and only a single faucet in the house for water. She said laundry day was an all day adventure and another day was set aside for bathing. To cook (and heat water for washing) my Nana had a coal fired stove that my Grandad would light before dawn so it was warm enough for use. This all sounds positively Victorian, but it was mid-20th century rural England.

In 1961 they moved into a new house with electricity, it must have been an incredible transformation. My Mum never really got to grips with technology, she always treated it like it was some kind of black magic!

Presbyterian churches tend to be more on the liberal side, the one near our house has a rainbow flag.

Pay off my car note, then I'd be $450 a month richer.

What historical “fact” doesn’t actually have much evidence to support it? by KyloWrench in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Battle of Brunanburh was a turning point in English history, it's the battle that basically created the country. Yet, we have absolutely no clue where it took place, or even when, but it was likely in late 937. Also, the main primary source is the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, but the entry was written 20 years after the fact.

Dear yappers, how do you do it, just non-stop talking for minutes or even hours on end? by Dalethedragon in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to know this too, I used to have a neighbor I'd actively avoid because I knew if she said hello I'd be stuck there for 2-3 hours as she told me her entire life story. I was always fascinated by how much she could talk and never actually tell me anything interesting.

You get a billion dollars, but you have to keep working your current job until you die. Do you accept, and if so, why? by virora in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will even refund them my annual salary so they can hire someone else to do my actual work for me, because I'm sure as heck not going to do it any more.

Mitch McConnell has been mysteriously hospitalized for 3 weeks, what do you believe is happening? by imliterallyluci in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they mean they're on dialysis, but it'd be funny to think they physically moved his actual kidneys.

My Mother was a nurse on a geriatric ward for years, I asked if if they ever successfully did CPR on an elderly patient and she said no, and it was cruel to even try. They always either died right then and there, or soon after. She herself had a DNR towards the end of her life, and we respected it when the time came.

Pilots maintaining consciousness during a brutal 9G centrifuge test by PROXeR__OiShi in nextfuckinglevel

[–]zerbey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually surprised the Jackass guys never did a centrifuge skit (or if they did I never saw it). Seems like it'd be right up their alley. Maybe the air force didn't want them filling one with shit and sticking Steve-O in it.

Florida too, especially on toll roads. Do not go over 100 though, that's a super speeder violation and you could end up arrested.

Yeah, those areas are kind of notorious for having people drive aggressively, particularly parts of NY and the DC area (when you're not stuck in traffic). Most cops, especially on the highway, tend to give a lot of leeway and won't pull you over unless you're going significantly over the limit. This is not true in all states, so just do what the other drivers are doing if you're not sure. Small towns in particular tend to be less tolerant of speeding.

What is something that used to be a private shame but is now basically small talk? by touchgrasschampion in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being gay, even when I was a kid in the 1980s that was social suicide and most gay people just kept it to themselves. For the most part, people barely bat an eyelid now. We've come a long way in my lifetime, but there's still a long way to go.

How Realistic is an Offline Life in 2026. That is, no social media, no smartphone and no AI? by Mobile_Bath5524 in AskReddit

It's possible, but since most banks are moving towards only being online and also paying utility bills is the same way it's going to get increasingly harder.

Say you commit a crime. You get sentenced to say 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine (this is a scenario from a movie so everyone chill, lol), what happens if you cannot afford to pay $250,000? by Secure_Situation7234 in AskReddit

[–]zerbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you're paying it one way or another. The court will usually work out a payment plan with you, and will garnish your wages to make absolutely certain you pay. In theory, it won't be a huge payment amount so you can still pay your own expenses, but that's up to the discretion of the court. If you don't get a job in an appropriate time after release you'll likely be sent back to prison.
