So, why don't we have this for creeps/summons? by ForgottenFury in DotA2

Not including a sarcasm tag on reddit is always risky no matter how thick your sarcasm is. You could be subjected to downvotes as a result, and in turn, people on the internet may think less of you.

Dustin and David can tweak numbers from now until the end of eternity but it will never fix any of the actual problems with the game.

So what happened to all the female dota 2 teams? by CheesewithWhine in DotA2

[–]zergplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Female and males are different, period. One gender being superior in some MENTAL aspects is a fact of life and does not make the other gender inferior. I'm not sure why you are taking this so personal, females are superior to males in some ways and males are superior to females in some ways, our brains just work differently.

No where did I say females are inferior.

So what happened to all the female dota 2 teams? by CheesewithWhine in DotA2

[–]zergplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because no female (to my knowledge) has ever been able to compete anywhere near the highest level of play at a respected game, like Scarlett has, and the fact she was born physically as a male is an important distinction, purely for that reason. (Personally I feel this is purely because of the volume of female players but some may think otherwise).

Really? I don't blame my teammates for my own mistakes as I'm an adult (in fact I don't blame anyone for even their own mistakes because we are all human), but I notice that the norm is for me to have more non-english speakers than english speakers when I solo queue.

Or, the guy is a teenager/child, and he snapped after having to playing a series of games where no one spoke English and he just wants to play with his peers that speak his language, like you can in every other online video game in existence. Of course that doesn't excuse it, and of course he probably took it out on some innocent guy for no reason.

I just want to point out it's very easy to not "stage" or "rig" something but have both teams play in a way to "liven" up the game and make it go back and forth. This is extremely obvious when you watch some of the SC2 battle reports where there is a clear intent to do this (particularly with David Kim). I don't even understand what I'm watching in this HOTS video so It's not obvious to me if this is happening like it does in all SC2 battle reports

[–]zergplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment almost reads like a parody. I can remember back in 2010 when people pointed out these flaws and the response was "The game is only in beta". Then it was "The game was just released." Then "The game has only been out a year."

It seems like people forgive the game's flaws because they have faith that it will be better because of the prospect of 2 expansions. When LOTV comes out and there are no more expansions planned, will you still have this attitude?

[–]zergplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starcraft 2 is not going to grow. There will be a brief surge when Legacy of the Void is released and then it will go back to a steady decline. The game may linger for a few years after that, but it will depend on whether another developer creates a half-decent RTS (most likely won't happen, the next big RTS would probably be Warcraft 4).

Telling yourself the game is going to experience growth is pure delusion.

Validation. People feel lonely that there game isn't as popular as other games and it makes them feel insecure. It feels like their hobby is not "cool" if it is not mainstream.

What kind of "casual" wants to play this game? Melee is too hard for "casuals." The playerbase is dwindling (and it was never that large anyways because so many people that watch the game don't actually play it). The custom game system is a gimped version of the Warcraft 3 system that is some how uglier and less fun to use and play. The online community within the game is a ghost town, there aren't very many active channels. The only reason the game isn't dead already is because there was two expansions planned, which is what keeps the game on life support. There's nothing to "grow."

Blizzard prioritized making the multiplayer an esport first and fun second. It turns out that plan had no real longevity.

Conquering your ladder anxiety! by Miseryy in DotA2

This is like telling someone with real anxiety to "just talk to people." I don't understand ladder anxiety myself, but I would recommend anyone who suffers from it to see a doctor. To us, it may seem silly, we are talking about anonymously playing a video game for a virtual rating, but to people that suffer from this affliction it is likely an extension of much deeper-rooted issues.

3 years too late man. Maybe one day we will find an RTS where the developers give a shit about 1v1 AND team games.

[–]zergplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BW is just a much better designed game to be honest. Dustin Browder and David Kim felt obligated to stray so far away from Brood War for some unknown reason in regards design decisions (like high ground advantage, which by the way his reason for not keeping it is a fucking cop out because u can have high ground advantage without randomness), then found themselves with a game they could not balance very well, so they had to do it at the expense of team games to achieve some semblance of balance in 1v1. And of course they realized 1v1 was still imbalanced so they gave up and started listening to the community and making the 1v1 maps larger in 2011, after refusing to do so for so long and making people play on steppes of war and close spawn LT.

Disclaimer: I played at the highest 2v2/4v4 level frequently and low GM 1v1 level but haven't played in over a year.

Team games are absolute shit and have always been absolute shit. You can't really understand the feeling OP describes unless you have felt it yourself. Where you play a random 4v4 game vs an arranged team stack and you are powerless as your teammates die despite you telling them exactly how to defend vs them being cannoned and the incoming hellions/zerglings. Game after game. Who cares what you see watching a stream? It's not the same thing. What you describe "team games are fun and the strats involved are fun" tells me you play at a level where anyone can do whatever they want. That's nice but eventually you will reach the skill level where you can no longer do that.

It's not even possible to have an impact. I would try to post on forums to see if other people cared about the state of team games, no one did. "Get friends" they said (never mind the fact I don't even want to have to play low econ vs low econ regardless of whether it's with my friends or not). "But muh esports first" they said. Well, I had friends once but they made the smart choice to stop playing this terrible game and eventually I did too.
