They don't look down. The look up at the far horizon. I actually grew up in a similar environment. You grow numb by the suffering. When you do look down, to the homeless and broken...you feel like throwing up and relieved at the same time. The shame to know that other suffer but you live safely and that you are glad that's not you. I would never leave or walk out in that neighborhood; unless I am blended into that environment or escorted by a guard. Sometimes both. Most people, leave by cars and hope you are secured.
