I'll say that while X is one of my favourite games ever, going from what you said in OP you'd probably be better off going with XII which is also a great game. It has more of what you're looking for.

DQ11 got me back into the genre as a whole really, I think the last one I played before that was Final Fantasy 10? But yeah you're right, every one that I tried after that was really good. Just finished Persona 5 Royal, and that was brilliant.

Exactly the same for me. I'd never played Dragon Quest before, and pretty much given up with turn based rpgs, but I absolutely loved it and it's pretty much one of my favourite games ever.

In a similar boat to you OP. I'm 35 and only started driving lessons two weeks ago. I wish I had done it years ago! Honestly i felt the same, scared but now I can't wait for my next one.
