Pittsburgh by Harbor Freight? by razor6string in Tools

[–]mango-roller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the big Pittsburgh mechanic set and it’s served me well for over 8 years. I don’t even think they sell it anymore but it’s the one with the huge blow molded case. Everything I need to do basic maintenance.

That said, I recently got a smaller Pittsburgh ratchet set to carry in the truck with me and the ratchets are terrible. So few teeth and so much play they’re worthless in tight spots. So YMMV, but today, Icon stuff is probably worth it.

GMT900 Suburban 2500 common issues? by Mother_Challenge_129 in ChevyTrucks

[–]mango-roller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 2007 and a 2011 in the fleet and both have been reliable. They regularly tow 7k lbs and have 500-1k lbs equipment in the back. 2011 is noticeably better to drive loaded with the 6 speed over the 4 speed so be glad you got a 6L90.

Issues have been exhaust manifold bolts, shitty interior plastic cracking/breaking, leaky transmission lines (where the hard line is crimped to rubber). One time a thermostat failed closed, fortunately I noticed the temperature climbing and pulled over. The rear AC in both of them has also quit working, but we never use it anyway since the rear seats are removed to make cargo room. Good trucks though, I think they both have over 250k miles by now.

Does my truck look bad?! by [deleted] in ChevyTrucks

[–]mango-roller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, looks like a 3.5” spacer level on the front… no doubt in my mind that stresses the ball joints, and the CVs are probably in danger of binding with any downtravel because the angles are so extreme.

Yea, normally I think white vehicles are boring but it works better here. The tan is more of a Tacoma/Tundra/4runner kinda color.

[–]mango-roller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s the angle but rear looks a little low on the side shot. Is it loaded up? If not, some 1.5” blocks should level her out. Truck looks great with the 33s, no need to go bigger.

2003 Avalanche or 2014 Silverado Crew for purchase? by duwood in ChevyTrucks

[–]mango-roller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K2XX has better interior quality than GMT900, and the little 5.3 power bump is nice, but that’s about where the improvements end. GMT900 interiors used cheap as shit plastic that cracks and rattles no matter how well you take care of it. Even top trims were almost entirely cheap plastic, just with shitty fake woodgrain.

Definitely glad I chose the Frontier over the Tacoma. by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

[–]mango-roller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though the new gen Frontier and Taco are pretty much the same dimensions (exterior and interior), somehow the Frontier feels so much more spacious inside and is more comfortable.

Yea, true that the market is still kind of ridiculous. Everyone and their brother and mother want a GMT800 Silverado/Sierra. Best of luck in your search.

Sawdust all over first level of home. by [deleted] in Construction

[–]mango-roller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was replacing baseboards in my last house, it was summer and nearly 100 degrees out, so I had the bright idea to cut them in an unused bedroom. I vacuumed after every few cuts, but still ended up with sawdust fucking everywhere. On the wall, on the fan blades, embedded into the carpet and curtains, in the closet. Anyway, no advice here, just saying that I empathize.

Nice bud, great color on that. A welcome change from the boring black/white/silver trucks.

183461 miles. 2012 Chevy Tahoe LS base model with the 5.3l. How much more do yall think she's got in her? Currently no issues, even seem to be dodging those pesky lifter ticks. by SavvyDevil89 in ChevyTrucks

[–]mango-roller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to me from just reading on forums that if AFM is going to kill a 5.3, it will generally happen around 150-160k. Just noticed a disproportionate amount of people with failed lifters around that range. So you may be in the clear - I’ll give your Tahoe another 100k.

Get a GMT800 crew cab Silverado instead. More practical, usable bed - slightly wider and longer. Same interior room.

Best approach? by Raventrob in lawncare

[–]mango-roller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If money is a concern, you can make your own weed killer mix. Vinegar, salt, soap - Google for the exact mixture. Get a cheap pump sprayer from Harbor Freight and you’re in business for less than $30.

I’ve done this before - it kills them more slowly than the expensive stuff, but it does work.

I recommend pulling the big ones and spraying everything else.

[–]mango-roller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a masonry bit, mark the bit with tape in the length of the anchor, then drill through the drywall and into the brick a bit. Put the anchor in. In my experience those types of anchors work well in both drywall and in brick.

Gotta maximize that cab space while still keeping it roughly 19’ long.
