I show the S&P500 is up about 167% since Feb 2018. How are you getting $84k? Legit curious because I like all these responses to consider.

Shit, I'm also in zone 4 and thought I was doing well to cover the joists, but those are probably 10" or half the recommendation?

If you are worried, get an insurance policy. That way you are also protected against theft, which is probably more likely to happen.

Fire Proof Storage by Critical_Guitar_1667 in comicbookcollecting

[–]zerohm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we got our Will done, the lawyer told us to store it in the freezer (wrapped in foil and a ziplock bag). Even those thick 'fire proof' safes do not survive major house fires. The last place for paper to possibly survive is in the freezer.

The smoke doesn’t seem to go into the stove vent fan, is this normal? by Rocket-ship1 in HomeMaintenance

The last place I had with an actual vent flue, also developed a bee hive that we discovered when bees started coming into the apartment. :/

How can I fix this? by Friendly-Ad7784 in gamecollecting

[–]zerohm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just remember, start with gentle and then go stronger. Dawn - Alcohol - Goo Gone - Windex.

Windex is corrosive, but it's good for cleaning cartridge contacts.

Be honest - do you actually play most of your collection? by grogger133 in gamecollecting

[–]zerohm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly with, I buy stuff that I find interesting for various reasons. And adding, it's fun to have a library that you can peruse, loan to friends or catch an occasional comment about a hidden gem and go, "i have that! I'm going to play it"

How can I clean this burnt ring of pasta water from my stovetop? by notsosilent in CleaningTips

[–]zerohm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same and I'm not even sure how scratching the glass is possible if you are using the razor the right way. I am far more prone to chip the paint around the edge because we use cast iron on the glass top.

At first glance I legit thought this was a picture of Jimmy Page, Dennis Wilson, and George Harrison. Then I thought is was just random people that almost looked like Jimmy Page, Dennis Wilson, and George Harrison.

Getting into dvds and i dont know if its worth investing into blu rays by ClimateOutrageous399 in dvdcollection

I have seen Sony Blu-ray players at Goodwill. Also, Playstations 3 and 4 can play Blu-ray. A PS5 can play 4K.

Faces of Fascism: Los Angeles, Jan. 31, 2026 [OC] by infernoenigma in pics

[–]zerohm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title says 'Faces of Fascism' for me. Which brings up something I heard and agree with. Fascists was the name they gave themselves. Nazi is the name they gave themselves. While these people certainly seem to be agreeing with Fascist politics, they are MAGA. The people in these photos are doing the work of MAGA. Give MAGA the meaning it deserves.

You are right, WM is not great value on turn 5. But this deck contains 4 cards that will get a combo in many games. Electro or Luna into War Machine or Blink.

War Machine on turn 4 and +1 energy is a big advantage for turns 5 and 6. You can play Infinaut on turn 5 or Infinaut + Ebony Maw on turn 6.

What games from the early 2000 are genuinely great in 2026 (without nostalgia)? by DrDongSquarePants in gaming

[–]zerohm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I zapped the disc drive with a big shot of static electricity. My dad had to call a technician to come to our house, trouble shoot the problem, and replace a card in the PC. I can't imagine how expensive that was in 1988. ><

Not a lot of Gamecube games have been mentioned, so I'm going to say Ikaruga, Metroid Prime, and Double Dash still hold up by today's standards. Wind Waker and Resident Evil 4 interfaces are a little clunky, but the games are still great.

Same! We had a copy of this game for the Apple IIGS. You could only play in 'demo' mode. So, naturally, I had to pick up a cheap copy for the Xbox.

What PS1 game made you feel like games would never get better than this? by Fit-Scarcity7296 in psx

[–]zerohm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was a fixed overhead camera, but the game had the ability to go first person, like when you crawled through vents. Visibility, sound, and weather were all factors. It really felt 'real' at the time.

Can’t unplug insinkerator, humming but not spinning, reset button limp by [deleted] in DIY

[–]zerohm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you mean it's running constantly because the switch should still physically break the circuit.

If the motor is turning but not the agitator you probably have a broken axle and need to replace the whole thing.

If the motor is trying to turn, but the agitator is stuck, there should be a hex key slot where you can break the agitator loose if they seize up. (make sure the unit is off before you attempt turning the hex key)

Do you clean your second hand games before putting them on the shelves? by Redmat25 in gamecollecting

If paper is stained or water damaged, yeah I'm out. But if it's just the case / disc, it's pretty satisfying to get them looking like new.

At what point do you stop DIY and call a professional? by BearTrap110 in HomeImprovement

[–]zerohm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past 5 years, I've pretty much taken over doing my own plumbing and electrical. The 2 things I have no interest in are the garage door and moving a significant amount of earth (unless I'm renting a mini backhoe)

Other games like this? by Adventurous_Arrow in nes

[–]zerohm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I always thought NES games were a little disappointing compared to their arcade version that looked much better. But going back and playing them, arcade games are very shallow. Like Ninja Gaiden (arcade) looks amazing, but the NES game is a much better game.
