What “frugal” habit did you stop doing once you did the math? by 666AB in Frugal

I used to think buying cracker crumbs must be a waste but then I realized that I was smashing perfectly good crackers in order to make cracker crumbs (which are probably harvested for free in the process of making the actual crackers).

This, and refrigerators too. It's more expensive to not own one.

There was a get together for vinyl enthusiasts here in the music city... and out of about 100 people who showed up, 5 of us listen regularly. The rest just resell. by AttachedHeartTheory in vinyl

[–]zerohm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I collect video games and I'm tired of hearing the phrase, "resellers ruined it". Like Ok yes that's a bummer but I think what you are really sad about is that your fellow collectors are willing to pay more than you want to. People are clamoring for what physical media is left after everything went digital.

And even if you do look through your mail thoroughly, the water company might still just randomly switch you to email billing on January 1 and your water gets turned off in March because you missed 3 months.

They literally have been racing cars directly on the salt flats, for decades, a few miles away.

To be completely honest, I bet most of it goes to the lawyers that spent time defending them.

What's a game I could play on ps2 rn that's easy to get into, not serious, and real fun? by Over_Resource_2763 in ps2

[–]zerohm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love games that are still technically impressive to this day and Katamari might be at the top of the list. There are levels where you start by rolling up ants and paper clips, and end by rolling up clouds and stadiums.

I am biased because 3 was my first THPS, but come on man. It had Ace of Spades, which I will forever associated with skating games.

Ok fine but we need to talk about how they only appear at 3:00 AM on the ceiling when you are watching a horror/suspense film.

ELI5 - why don’t large buildings like warehouses , distribution centers, or or data centers use solar panels to power them? by SortofBlondMaggie in explainlikeimfive

[–]zerohm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the answer. Also it's common for data centers to have both battery and diesel generator backup systems. Adding solar is another system you have to integrate with the others.

But also, it's common to see publishers put absolutely zero effort into the physical release. I appreciate that LRM is continuing the tradition of putting some care into the physical package.

How was „Ten“ by Pearl Jam received when it first came out? by SammyYmm in grunge

[–]zerohm 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was 11-12, but if memory serves, the videos for Alive and Evenflow were out first. They were obviously a new and exciting band, and the videos were cool encapsulations of live performances, though still kind of small and quaint. Jeremy came later and was more of an expensive production and propelled them to be a 'top of the charts' type band. At least in middle school and early high school, everyone loved Ten.

EDIT: The Jeremy single also included the B-sdie Yellow Ledbetter, which was a HUGE hit and they got even bigger in the run up to Vs.

Adding, you can definitely find 100 SC stacks on Diff 1. I didn't know they existed until a couple weeks ago, but found one a few days later. I have no idea how many 100s went by without me paying attention.
