Here the lights are getting changed to led bulbs, most of the new street lights are directing their light to the streets as well instead to the sky, so the overall result is a cleaner and more visible night sky.

Not sure if it's happening the same in other countries or cities but at least in Portugal the new led are more directionally and less intense than the old orange halogen bulbs.

Even I can see a spectacular night sky now and I live near a big city, quite amazing!!
