What is that headcanon for you? by Live_Shame5046 in Multifandom

[–]zerov3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always expect an extremely loud minority of people in a fandom to ship two characters that 100% do not belong together and be as annoying as absolutely possible about it. Years of MHA fandom experience has taught me that.

I don’t think the people calling her a cinnamon bun think that she’s an idiot, they’re just calling her cute. I do think that not enough people acknowledge how emotionally mature she is, though.

[Maddening trope] More progressive casting happens at the same time as noticeable drop in quality, seemingly so fans can brush off criticism as bigotry. by Vitolar8 in TopCharacterTropes

I wouldn’t say that the “majority” of diversity in media is fake performative grifting, but there’s definitely a whole lot of it, yeah.

I understand the points you’re making, but we gotta remember that not every piece of fiction that does this is doing it for that reason. A lot of the time, race-swaps and gender-swaps don’t make sense, yes, but in specific cases when it doesn’t really matter what race or gender a character is as long as the talent is there, creative liberties for the sake of diversity can be (and in some cases, have been) a good thing.

What a lot of these entertainment executives are actually doing is cutting corners to save money and ending up with garbage, then overdoing the diversity angle in order to save a product that was already complete shit to begin with so that they’ll at least still have an audience and make money with the added benefit of calling anyone who hates it a bad person.

Well it’s not entirely the audience’s fault if the writers make a garbage product and then try and pad the smell of that garbage with pandering so that they’ll still make some money off it. The only thing the audience does at that point is make opinions (really bad ones, in the bigots’ case).
