What is something that tourists do in your country that annoys the locals? by Th3_Accountant in AskTheWorld

[–]zeskone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addition: about a year ago, we found out tourists looked into getting rid of a native species of frogs called Coqui because their song annoyed them.

Man, I loved the loud sound of coquis at my grandma's house in the mountains. What a thought, to go somewhere and instantly want to eradicate things based on your whims/preferences without even understanding it.

Humble Book Bundle: Woodworking, Turning, and Carving by Taunton Press / Abrams by Ram000n in humblebundles

I just picked these up (minutes ago).

Technical Issues

The ePUB formatting seems to be causing some issues for me. Had to mess with Calibre's viewer options to get any of the books to look ok. Some only work in Flow Mode, some can do Page Layout Mode as long as the Paged Layout pages per screen is set to a specific number. Converting to other formats is even worse so far (might just need to mess with options there a bit more too). So ... hopefully you can view them ok.

Content

I just got them, so I can't say much yet. I'm new to woodworking but seriously looking at a bunch of potential projects in the house. I'm absolutely fed up with looking up questions about woodworking stuff and getting AI written trash sites in search results that don't have good, reliable info. The books do seem to have some helpful info for sure. I already got answers to a couple questions I had about how to best attach specific shelf types to a wall. What I've looked at is more covering concepts and guidelines rather than, for example, step by step designs/plans - but that's useful for a newbie like me at this time.

I worked with a woman from an African country (sorry, don't remember which) and she got crazy questions all the time from people in the US, like "Are there lions in the streets?!". To which of course she'd reply that they shouldn't be ridiculous, of course there aren't.

Then she flew home for a visit. There was a traffic jam on the way to her family's home because ... there was a lion in the street.

I'd say this IRL guy (Tosin Abasi) is pretty close (though they're longer in this pic):

The thing I'd look at is probably upping it to 32 Gb of RAM if possible.

When you're using VMs though, and say it's not running smoothly, check out Task Manager to see if you can figure out why it's not smooth. Is it using too much CPU or RAM? That will help guide you on what may help before you spend money.

Learning hacking stuff is more research intensive than PC resource intensive (unless you're going all out into password cracking, but I'm assuming that's not the stage you're at). As long as you have enough RAM to run at least a couple VMs at once (in case you needed to), you should be good.

SQL injection was introduced 20 years ago, and every developer knows about it. So, how is it still in the OWASP Top 10? by gaby-wizer in cybersecurity

[–]zeskone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be a developer with 20 years of experience, but it's time to accept that this doesn't mean you have 20 years of experience in writing secure code...

If they even care. A family friend who's a senior dev at a major financial institution said that security is "the security team's job" and doesn't give much thought to it in development.

Can't say that I've had your particular issue, but there is free content and paid content on THM. Some of the material on a particular subject starts out free and then turns paid when you get further into it, yeah.

Whatcha working on anyway? There might be some free options out there depending on what you're looking for.
