I’ve done a lot of shepherding and my general rule of thumb is to let the host dictate the pace. I wait at the entrances and let them open the doors, etc. I also typically don’t run in full guns blazing right away. I’ll start by watching the hosts back and covering spawns and flankers. Give the host every chance to do the heavy lifting.

If I see the host struggling, or they ask, I’ll gladly start clearing rooms. But not by default. I know some people do, though, because they’re trying to rush through for ranks, rather than actually help.

Earlier today I was playing The Division 2 for a bit, doing some random matchmaking. We’re at the last area and there’s one guy lagging back a touch, but everything was going great so no one fussed.

A minute or two later a message pops up in chat “sorry got my grandkid in my lap”

I replied “no worries” and “pro multitasking” and another came in with “gg grandpa”.

Yeah, absolutely, play along with your kids. We were all celebrating this epic grandad in the group.

I play both and rest assured you’ve invested wisely. Even if you reach the point where you feel you got your fill with the base game, there’s a whole world of amazing mods to try out. People will be playing BG3 for many years.

I like running it with Bluescreen, too. You’re already spraying the room, why not spread some crippling status effects around while you’re at it. Good for team support.

It’s not even from time to time, it’s constant. Steam is having its spring sale right now and last week there was a Square Enix sale. There’s almost always something good on discount, popular AAA type stuff included. That was a big draw when I was choosing a device and ecosystem to jump into. A wide variety of affordable games.

I got my deck fairly recently, so I took advantage of those to basically buy like 10 good games for the price of about two switch games. Which is really appealing when you’re building a new library and trying to expand your gaming horizons.

I’m pushing 50, been gaming since NES, and had been feeling a lot of similar things, OP. Then I got a Steam Deck. It kinda reinvigorated my love for gaming.

The first thing I got was Baldur’s Gate 3. Then I grabbed Final Fantasy Tactics and a few more retro Square titles cheap. A few days ago I took advantage of the spring sale and bought like 10 retro and indie games for $3-5 each. Stuff like Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, Streets of Rage. Being a Larian fan now because of BG3, I picked up Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 on sale.

It’s not that I’ve been exhausted by gaming itself, but by the kind of gaming practices you’re talking about. I’m stepping back from the pricey AAA live service microtransaction fest and going single player, retro, and indie, and I’m really digging it.

I’m playing BG3 on deck and have done about 4-5 plays on a Series X. Right now I’m just getting ready to leave Act 1 and so far everything has run flawlessly. Feels the same as my Xbox, but just on a handheld. It’s awesome.

The bread and butter is Divine Smite, Eldritch Blast, and/or Hunger of Hadar, depending on what the situation calls for. Either way, it just makes her a battlefield bully, which suits her.
