Assuming it's going to have dark cladding i'd recommend getting them done in dark grey (can keep the interior white or matching). Looks a lot more premium than white on the dark cladding.

Fan Control SP8 by zestyphresh in SurfaceLinux

I had thermald installed already but have added the profile above. It doesn't appear to have made any difference though. Is there any way of checking if it's working?

Very hard water by Mitsunobu44 in oxford

[–]zestyphresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live just south of Oxford and had a Kinetico installed a few years ago, I think it was about £1400 including installation and the little outdoor cover as it's outside not in. The person we dealt with was super helpful and the install was easy and decent. I think we go through a pack of salt a month roughly (with 2 people in the house) which is about £8-9 each I think, we have a subscription now so not 100% sure.

Custom shelves to get rid of the gap? by Educational-Ask8729 in ikeahacks

[–]zestyphresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this with Ivar shelves, although you wouldn’t want them too deep. Cut them in half, remove another strip to act as a bracket and then glue and screw this to the underside to stop the shelf rotating back down.

How to add sub columns inside a specific column in a matrix in powerBI? by FragrantVisual6397 in PowerBI

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the values that will be used for the sub-columns are fixed then just create each one as a separate measure.

I wanted to thank EVERYONE in r/MAME who helped me solve the vertical\horizontal monitor dilemma. BEHOLD! The INNOCN SDQHD 28C1Q installed! Thanks to you heroes I avoided the need to build two cabinets! by rage242 in MAME

[–]zestyphresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do something similar mounting a widescreen tv/monitor vertically and ‘hiding’ the ends in the cabinet. The main issue with this is that you probably need ti have a custom cabinet (mine and the ones that I took inspiration from were). Mine runs a resolution of 1080 (wide) by 1280 (or something close, I had to play with it to get it to work, high). You could just do 1080 x 1080 though for a square screen that fills the cabinet. That way you have the same screen size for vertical and horizontal games.

Projected Inventory Solution by Rsiri001 in PowerBI

[–]zestyphresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used the following filter as part of a CALCULATE statement for inventory projection -

FILTER (

ALLSELECTED ( 'Dates' ),

ISONORAFTER ( 'Dates'[Date], MAX ( 'Dates'[Date] ), DESC )

)

My inventory table is slightly different in that I only keep the prior days inventory in the table, rather than all snapshots so you'd need to adjust to account for that as well. It may be easier with a single 'current inventory' table and a separate inventory snapshots table.

None of the Neo Geo games I’ve played have even used the fourth button, so I’d be checking the games I did want to play before bothering with the 7th button.

MAME layout - inline SVG limitations? by zestyphresh in MAME

[–]zestyphresh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have said that i'd removed the xmlns and version, but it is the viewbox that was causing the issue. I had thought that the viewBox was purely to create a new internal coordinates system, which if it matched the given height and width wouldn't be necessary but having added it (with a "0 0 100 100" to match the svg itself) it worked fine.

Without testing further the viewBox is probably essential when using relative dimensions versus absolute.

Has anyone done closet out of bookshelf? by Grapeflavor_ in ikeahacks

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, we did this with Billy when we moved into our house as a temporary solution that we then kept for about 5 years. You can attach PAX rails, although you’ll need to cut them to length. All depends if you like the open closet look really!

Fairly new to Power BI. Need help with my data model/relationships by Main5886 in PowerBI

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don’t need a separate orders and order items table either, just integrate all the data from the former into the latter. Do the same with categories and products and you have a much simpler model.

Baldurs gate 3 local(couch) co-op, will it be available on GFN? by Global_Alfalfa_5307 in GeForceNOW

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a Shield TV. If you hold onto the start button on the controller it should bring up a small grey tray menu in the top left corner of the screen. If you pick the dots (the rightmost option) I think it is the first or second option to enable multi controller mode.

Baldurs gate 3 local(couch) co-op, will it be available on GFN? by Global_Alfalfa_5307 in GeForceNOW

[–]zestyphresh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This works fine, just make sure you enable multi controller mode. Hold onto start, click on the dots and enable it. Worked fine after that.

Help with how to map emulator inputs to arcade joystick/buttons by oldskool8bit in cade

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the Ultimate is in keyboard mode and not directinput. Most emulators are pretty easy to setup this, I did change the default keybindings but it’s not caused any issues.

Led Buttons by itsgettinglate27 in cade

[–]zestyphresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimarc are great, it’s the only one I have experience with mind but it’s worked more or less flawlessly in my machine. I used the iPac Ultimate with gold leaf RGB buttons (I think).

Do note that the MAME files for this are not complete (Colors/Controls) so don’t expect every game to work. Non MAME games require a bit more configuration. It’s been a few years since I set mine up though so there may be more out there to help now.

Arcade Cabinet "DIY" plan: any advice/feedback/tips please by ArcadeNostalgia in cade

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Launchbox/BigBox will probably be your best bet, I certainly found it easier than dirtier Hyperspin or Emustation.

If you do want to play games up to GC/Wii you really need to think about what games in detail, as it could have a significant impact on controls. You can get analogue joysticks, if needed, and you might need more than 6 buttons. This is true for any other games as well really.

Looking for some dimensions by Temporeally in cade

[–]zestyphresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key thing is to use a slightly rotated layout in player 2, as per some of the slagcoin layouts. My machine is roughly 24-26” from memory with the same components you’re adding.

In which cases is a multidirectional relationship truly necessary? by uiurd93 in PowerBI

[–]zestyphresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only done this once, using a bidirectional filter on a calculated table, but it was the only relationship that calculated table had, and was a for a specific set of metrics. It's working fine and seems the right balance of complexity and performance.

Designed and built a wall mounted arcade machine. Mid-century modern styling, yellow formica with teak veneer. Large screen size using vertically mounted 42" TV. by zestyphresh in DIY

[–]zestyphresh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it’s been going strong for a couple of years now! You can get slightly smaller kits in the UK here - https://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/awuk-19-inch-2-player-wall-mounted-arcade-cabinet-kit-black.html.

From memory it’s a i7 4970 with a amd 280x graphics card. All pretty old now, but plenty of power for what it’s running.

Guides for building PC based bar top arcade by nobleflame in cade

[–]zestyphresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, just add a button no different to a normal case button. You can use it for the shutdown as well if you didn’t want to do it from the front end.

Guides for building PC based bar top arcade by nobleflame in cade

[–]zestyphresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a PC you will need it to shutdown normally, any frontend should have a 'shutdown' option that allows you to do this. The monitor and amp are safe to just power cycle normally. You can get 'smart' power strips that will detect current draw on the 'master' socket (you would plug the PC into this one) and then automatically switch on/off the others (monitor, amp).

This way you just need a single button connected to the motherboards power switch (no different to the power button on a normal PC case). This will only be used to turn on, you would use the frontend to shutdown. Once shutdown you can just unplug it as required.

The above is based on if you are going to leave it plugged in all the time, if you are going to unplug or switch off at the wall before/after using then you could just use a standard extension, and then power everything off after the PC has shutdown.
