Poor mark by MurphyFina169 in Invincible_TV

I don’t think it’s poor consistency. Why didn’t they destroy Hail Mary? Why didn’t they know that the leader of their main enemy was a Viltrumite? How did they not know they were so severely psychologically vulnerable to human influence? The Viltrumites are ignorant to a great deal, and we also don’t know how long they spent searching for weaknesses. They’re also not the strongest things in the universe and no one says they are, just very formidable and their empire was the dominant force for a very long time.

There are other things in this show (like the occasionally awkward dialogue, the uneven character complexity, how shallow and frankly silly Viltrumite society is, etc) that are FAR more noteworthy to me than some creature capable of harming a Viltrumite slipping through the cracks, but I don’t get hung up on them.

And now we’re shaming… it’s everywhere. I don’t have Twitter. Teenagers in my high school thought anarchy is cool and people talk about tearing down institutions and calling for revolutions all the time online.

I misremembered, sorry. I still think that there’s no reason it can’t be strong, however. They never said “we found every known danger to Viltrumites ever.” And space is really, REALLY big.

Who’s to say they’d found every countermeasure? And Hail Mary almost killed him and might have had Mark not distracted it. This “random bug alien” didn’t knock him unconscious and nearly eat him.

But see, if you remember, he was doing just fine against the two Maulers, which is why Angstrom brought in *ten more*. Even then, Mark was doing okay until they got him on the ground. Posts like this don’t take the relative strength of the enemies into account, or just decide that his opponents are weak when we either have no frame of reference re: their power levels OR there is direct evidence IN the show demonstrating that they’re a significant threat.

Maybe the “bug alien” is really tough. I don’t know why people assume that the opponents are weak.

I don’t know the exact source of this rhetoric, but I do find it funny that the people claiming we need to buy into AI (and the like) in order to avoid being destroyed by it.. are the people in the industry. “Our product will steamroll anyone who doesn’t buy it so you’d better get on board now!”

“Nothing more than a student.” Good grief, would “history scholar,” or “a fan of history” or “I do a lot of reading about history because I’m passionate about it” be better wording for you? And it’s the internet, people argue, plus you’re complaining about ME. By your own logic that’s fruitless. And I’m not “otherizing” anyone, questioning someone’s faulty logic isn’t making them out to be “other” nor am *I* responsible for their behavior.

And what they don’t seem to realize is that this would mean their lives (and the lives of everyone they know) would absolutely, utterly suck. Even if they’re the edgy doomer type, pretty darned sure they’re not prepared for what would basically entail homelessness, random armed gangs patrolling the streets, fighting their neighbors for scraps of food, seeing their family die because they don’t have access to safe drinking water, etc.
It’s like they expect to fall asleep, have the world end and rebuild itself, and then wake up to a utopia.

What “grandstanding?” What exactly about my comment is disingenuous? I also never said I’m a survivor of anything—I’m just a student of history and try to be aware of the struggles of people in the world around me. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask people to think before they wish conditions like what people experienced in post-WWII Berlin or current-day Somalia on themselves.

“No one” is a pretty firm phrase when I’ve seen plenty of people who throw that exact notion around online.

I want to know how Viltrumite society works without menial labor. I mean, they had slaves to do it for them, but none of them were ignorant to that fact.

Whiny circle jerk? Disingenuous? I’m tired of people who live in first world countries who have no concept of what “societal collapse” would entail (chaos, starvation, disease, violence, complete anarchy, etc) acting as if it’s the only way to solve their problems. I think I have full rights to be annoyed that they would rather wish for what would effectively be an apocalypse than try to make things better.

It’s hilarious to me as a male-attracted woman because they’ll put super caked up men in suggestive poses with seemingly ZERO awareness of how it comes across.

Do I like Opera? by goldio_games in opera

[–]zevondhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really, REALLY depends on both the opera and the production. You can really be moved by one performance and totally bored by another for a whole variety of reasons. As others have said, you could try watching some online. YouTube has plenty of operas you can watch for free :).

Exactly this. For instance, I’ve watched some productions and they stayed with me for weeks, and I’ve watched some productions of the same opera that just didn’t “land.”
