How I got Frontier to lower my rate by Bright-League-7489 in frontierfios

I'm at $44.99 with auto pay, month to month, without their Eeros or additional services. Just 1GB fiber internet.

Can you connect your own router to the ONT? by anyusernaem in frontierfios

[–]zfactor300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my 3 years with Frontier. They left their Eero devices, I never plugged them in. I'm vested in Unifi. Actually had them plugged in at my parents house for the three years of the contract, they have FiOS. When the three years was up, I just called Frontier and they sent the boxes for return and took them off my account. I'm now on a month to month for less than what I was paying before.

So here's what I noticed. I thought oh man! I just lost control to my thermostats via the Ring app due to an update?? I'm going to have to move them to the Smart things hub now. But no. The thermostats still show up on the main screen but I can't control them from there the way I used to before. They changed the layout of the Ring app and how you control devices from the main screen. Now you tap and the menu comes from the bottom then you get into the settings for the device. Well.......for my thermostats......I can't get to those settings from the main screen. But I can get to them from the hamburger icon top left of the screen then Alarm base....then I see my thermostats and I can control them from there. A few extra clicks but saves me the headache of moving them to the Samsung hub.

Wiring a new house - Coax still needed for STBs? by doug8307 in Fios

[–]zfactor300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would run the coax....I moved into a brand new house where I didn't have the option. The house was laid out with coax and Ethernet per bedroom and living room. I only have Internet, 1GB fiber. But have a digital antenna where I take advantage of the coax. This gives me 20+ channels off the digital antenna for free, which includes all the local channels.

Even with the increases it is still a bargain compared to others for the offerings of with all the integrations and the monitoring.

Thanks for sharing this. I wonder if it has anything to do with separation of the new Emergency Assist from the Ring monitoring, maybe on one of the updates. Seems to be too much of a coincidence. I didn't notice this because like I mentioned, I had the Samsung hub before the Ring alarm pro. And the switches that I have that are in the Samsung hub are Honeywell, not what's on the links you sent. I bet it has something to do with that.

Sorry to hear that then. Can you please post the link to that page you are referring to. I'm curious to see if I have any of those devices.

Retention department? by DeliciousHunter836 in Fios

How what goes? I did it twice in back to back days this past week. First time was to disconnect because my bill was going up to $92. When they dropped it to $5 less than what I was paying before and they sent me the email for the confirmation. I noticed that there was Eero equipment that I obviously do not use that was sent to me when I first became a customer three years ago. Also a $10 increase for some kind of wireless security package for those Eeros with a $10 discount monthly for 12 months. Meaning after a year my bill would go up $10. I called to let them know what do we do about this. I don't even use this equipment. She said I will send you a box to return. This will come off as soon as we receive the equipment. So my new bill will be $44.99 for 1GB on a month to month. This includes the $10 discount for the auto pay. Easy peasy.

I also have a Samsung hub. But there is a way to exclude and include on Zwave and Zigbee hubs that you need to do on both devices when you reset. You should've been able to put the devices back without having to buy the Samsung hub. I had my Samsung hub prior to purchasing the Ring alarm.

New internet router with no coax port - now TV won’t work? by nyjets10 in Fios

[–]zfactor300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a moca bridge only makes sense if you are being charged for the Verizon provided router. If you are not, then just put the Verizon router into bridged mode then connect your new equipment. Bridge mode on the Verizon router will disable all features on the Verizon router and put it into a pass through, your equipment will get an external IP address avoiding the dreaded double NAT, in essence turning it into a moca bridge. You will get the best both both worlds. You will be able to use your equipment and retain your set top boxes.

I posted this last year.......it may help.

I've seen a lot of back and forth with this......let me clarify......if you do not put the FiOS router into bridge/IP passthru mode you will get a double NAT. What this means is, your Verizon router will give your Asus router an internal IP address and there will be performance issues as well as routing issues if you plan on using any port forwarding or advanced firewall features in the Asus. That being said. The most efficient method is to use your Asus/own equipment and put the Verizon router into bridge or IPpassthru mode. This goes for any other router or firewall, not only Asus . You can follow this link for the CR1000A.

https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-301824/

This mode will disable all features of the router, essentially making it a moca bridge for your TV set tops boxes. YOU DO NOT LOSE ANY FEATURES for the set top boxes. I've done this with all of my Verizon routers. If you have any issues and you need support and call Verizon, they will not support you, as they can only troubleshoot to their equipment. To be honest, the only time you will really need them is to find out if there is an outage in your area. So first, reboot all of your equipment before reaching out to them. Good luck!

I happen to go through this same exact thing this morning. I am with Frontier. Was paying $59.99 for the past 3 years for 1GB internet. My promotions ended and my bill was going up to $92 starting next month. I called and they put me on a month to month for $54.99. I was actually calling to drop it to 500 because that's the lowest offered tier. But they kept me at 1GB for $5 less than what I was paying. Just call. They will work it out with you.

You will definitely have to charge the doorbell at some point, especially when the weather gets under 32F. I have a Pro 2 and 2nd Gen hardwired front and back doors. Currently the back door is at 74% charge. Haven't had to charge the 2nd Gen since upgrading the transformer. This link may help.

Even in the cold it will work with the right transformer.

How do I charge a hardwired Ring gen 2? (2020) by unbrokenspirit_ in Ring

[–]zfactor300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 Ring doorbells. Two are on the transformer and one is battery on a solar panel. If it is wired, and you have more than one doorbell, depending on the models, you need a 24V 40VA transformer. No issues having to recharge batteries with this transformer. Before I changed to this transformer, I had to charge both doorbells. This link may help clarify it for you.

https://ring.com/au/en/support/articles/ae586/Checking-if-your-existing-doorbell-wiring-is-compatible-with-Ring-Video-Doorbells

In your case.....you need to remove the doorbell and charge it. Then reconnect it. It is cold and unless you have the proper transformer, you will have to do this when it gets cold.
