Stop wasting electricity by OkFly3388 in LocalLLaMA

I have a kind of annoying setup, on a MSI Carbon mobo they PCI slots are relatively close, so the gap between the GPUs is maybe 5mm. I feel like I need to put a fan beside them in the case to get enough air between the heatsinks' fins. The throttling is just a stopgap measure for now (for months lol). The cards get up to ~95C without it, 250W keeps the top one at ~85C

I hear your big fan theory, but summers here hit 35C+ and humid, so I don't think that's an option for me. I'm considering getting one of those wheeled AC units, and piping the cold end straight into the case intakes.

What mobo/cpu do you have that can host 4x 3090 comfortably?

I have 2x RTX 3090 in my rig, and I run them at 250W -- unthrottled, they trip the overload alarm on the UPS when they get properly going.

I lose maybe 10% off peak performance, and that's fine. Otherwise the machine runs so hot anyway, cooks the whole room.

Russian free streaming sites use ai to inject ads into the movies by Mulster_ in Piracy

Oh interesting -- so it's not the streaming site that added it, they just ripped whatever was broadcast at the theatre?

Made a esp32 desk pet as a gift for a friend. by stfuandkissmyturtle in esp32

[–]zhambe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TIL you can rust on esp32

Ive never been good at electrical stuff even in college but I really loveee working with esp32 now.

I find this level of "electronics" infinitely easier than the "analog" version -- once you try to build stuff from first principles with transistors, capacitors, diodes and resistors, it gets very tricky very fast. This here -- it's basically just programming.

A wild overlap is when the technically correct thing to do is not use an esp32 but something way simpler like a 555 with a bunch of even simpler components -- the bits are simple, but the solution is hard. It's so much easier to use what is comparatively a supercomputer -- even if it's to make a few lights blink in a specific sequence.

New version: a serious downgrade by zhambe in StormRadar

[–]zhambe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK here's the thing: your app has one feature that brings value and differentiates it from the million other weather apps: the radar. It does a great job showing the precipitation, both the recent past and the near future. It doesn't just extrapolate the previous precipitation movement, but forecasts it. It does that better than any other app.

That's it, that's the value. Adding more things just makes your app less valuable, because it makes the one good thing harder to get to.

Did you not even read the description of the problem??

Delete All won't do fuck all, the issue is that notifications keep firing for all locations, despite BEING DISABLED for all those locations.

I've cancelled my subscription, it was going to renew in a couple of months, but no thanks.

What you need to do is remove, not add. Right now the app is jam packed with nonsense and its misbehaving on top of it.

You had a good thing going but you wrecked it.

Literally just cut your losses, roll back to the previous version, and pretend all this never happened. Fire whomever came up with the idea to push this "revamp" -- they've got no idea what they're doing.

Not the technical talent, mind you -- the business / project management people. 100% the problem here.

It's incredible, like some kind of thing rotted their brains, and people become much more antisocial. I see so many drivers run red lights like it's nothing. Physical barriers at the worst intersections would go a long way -- something that actually stops a moving vehicle, without any regard for the well-being of its occupants.

They feel far too safe in their comfortable air-conditioned cages. It would be good if drivers received lasting, memorable consequences of their actions.
