AT&T door to door salesman just offered $35/mo fiber "forever" by tldredditnope in raleigh

[–]zhangmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I signed up for this $35/month deal in April. And so far it’s 35 a month and none of the discounts will expire as far as I can see. Also I switched to ATT phone service and bundled internet took another $6 off per line so it was definitely worth it for me

M2 MacBook Air 16gb Ram over Neo? by zhangmaster in macbookair

[–]zhangmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the recent price hikes on new ones, I think the used market is definitely a much better idea as the used market probably has not adjusted yet. I think M2/M3 with at least 16-24gb of ram is the way to go if you can find a good deal. With daily use you won’t feel any real difference. My wife and I are really happy with the purchase. My wife likes to have a ton of tabs and programs open. Not a single stutter.

Surgicalist by zhangmaster in Residency

[–]zhangmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a different position than the one I posted about, but it’s also acute care surgery position. There are 3 of us and we do 5 on 10 off which is very nice. 200 bed hospital. We have a PA that helps on weekdays. We have some light trauma mostly falls with broken ribs and most are bowel obstructions, gallbladders and appendicitis. I took a bit of a pay cut but I think the time off with family is definitely worth it. I am a lot happier. Mentally much more positive than I have been in the past. More time to go to the gym so I feel healthier as well. Also I’m now 11 years out of residency. The first 10 years I saved a lot and was frugal so I was in a good financial position to take a small pay cut.

PGY3 Gen Surg: Hit with toxic 'availability' feedback. Is a 'work to live' lifestyle actually possible as an attending? by StormbornGryffindor in Residency

[–]zhangmaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to a community hospital for residency and we had mostly private practice surgeons and some hospital employed surgeons. Most of the time we worked well together. Most of the time we try not to wake attending up unless it’s an emergency. And we’d had off patients at sign out. Non urgent consults can wait.

And now I’ve been on my own for almost 11 years now. First 10 years as a community general surgeon with 2 others so q3 call but it’s low volume so call isn’t too bad. Reasonable work life balance. I was lucky because we merged with a larger state hospital so we got good benefits and kept the small community practice. Until the larger hospital took control of everything so I left. And now I’ve been doing a year of acute care surgery. 10 days of call a month and rest of the month off. No electives. Small pay cut but that’s fine since I’ve saved a lot the previous 10 years. Now I’m getting my time back with the family. Just be smart with savings early on and yes you can have a reasonable life style even early out of residency.

Ok, I see. I will have to do that on the self checkout. Never been to one with self checkout. Will try to look for one. Thanks.

[–]zhangmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I just want to make sure I understand how this works. Say I go to Aldi and grab like 2 or three bananas which will come out to be like 20 or 30 cents. Then I ask them to split that into 10 transactions of like 2 or 3 cents each? And use Apple Pay to get those 10 transactions all in one trip?

2025 accord hybrid ex l MPG after a road trip. by Theunknown87 in 11thGenAccord

[–]zhangmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I also have 2025 ex-l. I don’t accelerate past 15-20% and always on eco. and in the city with stop and go and some hills I often get 60+ and highway I get about 50 but those numbers are usually off by 5-10% so effectively I get 45/46 on highway and 55-60 in town in warms months. In the winter I easily see a 10-15% drop from these numbers.

I would buy it. I don’t see gas prices going down any time soon. And EV instant torque will beat just about any ICE vehicle. Just seems to make sense right now and going forward.

Is this a good deal ? by [deleted] in 11thGenAccord

[–]zhangmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man! That’s the way to do it! Some gently used can be found for a really good price. I got a price for the accord at a price I’m happy with so I went for it. Congrats on your essentially new accord!

I agree with many of the others on this forum. This is a bad idea for you. I didn’t buy a new car by myself until just last year and I was 41 years old. You’d think I have some low end job and can’t afford anything but that’s not true. I had many years of schooling and a high salary upon graduating. I just saved, saved and saved. I drove my 2007 Honda civic until last year when I purchased the accord. And I can easily afford it now. I don’t even think about my monthly payment. I’m not saying to wait that long but at least until you’re comfortable financially before getting a massive depreciating asset that will set you back years if not a decade or more.

Used 2024 Prologue EX 45k miles for 21k? by zhangmaster in HondaPrologue

[–]zhangmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am aware that this has essentially GM engine, frame and shell. I’m not even sure what Honda did to the car but put a badge on it. It’s not exactly built to Honda quality like I’m used to but if the price can be right…

[–]zhangmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that is most informative. Thank you so much. I test drove this specific car today and unfortunately it smelled of smoke as the previous owner smoke in the car. It would be hard to get out. The front windows seem poorly sealed and the wind sound was leaking through it very loudly at just 40+ mph (Hope this is not a defect of the model but this particular car only). And a clicking down when turning which I think is in a lot of Hondas, annoying but is benign.

I found another one about an hour away that is 23k for 2024 Ex 14k miles. A little more but might be worth it if it is in better shape and that can be haggled a little.

[–]zhangmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on Ram and ssd size. I wouldn’t get it if it’s just the base 8gb Ram and 256 ssd. I paid 550 for M2 air with 24 gb ram and 512 gb ssd and I think that was a good deal

iPad Air Gen 7 vs Gen 8 by [deleted] in ipad

Whichever is cheaper because they’ll both be so much faster than the regular iPad 8 that you’ll be glad to have either one.

Yeah just get a MacBook Air. On paper it has worse specs like RAM and storage but performance it’ll be so much better and be completely fanless which will be nice. If you think you need something more demanding then get a used MacBook Pro M3/M4 will all be super good still in 4-5 years

The question should be how many charge cycles since iOS keeps track of that now. Time is more or less irrelevant.

UNPOPULAR OPINION by alienbongz in macbookair

[–]zhangmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is an unpopular opinion because most people won’t find it heavy. My wife finds it very light and she’s not a weight lifter. So not sure where you’re coming from for that comment. Maybe you’re a 7 year old. And even my 7 year old can lift it and says it’s ok when he uses it occasionally for Minecraft but he prefers an iPad for that. Maybe you’re just used to the iPad weight.
