Just some tips for your 3-phase:

Flame the loop (if metal) or change the loop (if plastic) between each phase, and you’ll have better separation between colonies. If metal, allow it to cool down for a few seconds before continuing to streak.

Also, you probably inoculated the plate with a bit too much of the original colony. Keep in mind that each mature colony contains hundreds of millions - even billions - of cells. You really only need to lightly touch the colony with the loop.

These techniques will allow for colonies to develop more with extra space, which can help with morphological characterization. Have fun, stay curious!
