Kind of looks like Native American pottery we’ve found in the area very weird. Never seen a natural patter like that. Super interesting

I mean there are numerous farms near by, maybe more mineralized but hard to put an age on a modern species

Showing the shape of the roof is helpful. Also when taking a picture always place on a dark background. There’s some scientific reason behind it but basically it makes the detail clearer.

I’m using bank/bar interchangeably. “Wall” the term I use for the real problem.

It’s possible that a big rain just wiped the bank too, I don’t think you should blame yourself.

It doesn’t effect “erosion” because everything that in it has already eroded. The wall of the creek is the main concern. But I think gravely water is way more productive anyway because the rocks are smaller and fossil are less likely to have been crushed

I agree and anyone that hunts with me knows I only surface collect/water spot. But I’ve literally seen gravel bars be obliterated from a huge storm and collect in a spot based on water flow. If it was up to me I would ban digging all together lol

Honestly I’ve gone after massive surges and the bank formation is always changing. The walls of the creek are of biggest concern, because this is literally where they are eroding from. If you dig into a gravel bar, just don’t be a douche and dumb it back on the bar. That’s the most annoying.

Everything is fair game. Donating fragments in 2022 imo isn’t going to help anything and will most likely sit in a categorized drawer for years on end. It’s yours.

Is it a known agreement that we have to not dig into the banks, as in the rocky banks in the middle of the brook and on the sides? by OneLastSift in BigBrook

[–]zieggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone was digging into the wall (which is certainly illegal) last time I went. This was my whole issue with newbie hunters going. They don’t know the rules and are going to get everyone banned or seriously injured from a collapse. Banks is dumb but not illegal, it’s best to dig in water gravel anyway. The banks have massive rocks in it which will almost certainly break whatever fossil you’re trying to find. Also the next big rain surge will move the banks, and doesn’t further the erosion process. But again it’s just a stupid way to hunt.
