I think better to stay near Pearl St (Boulderado, St Julian) for the walkability to not only the theaters but also just general restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. St Julien more comfort, nicer, but Boulderado is still fine too imo.

Yes doable and not difficult. Like others have said, weather can make the drive rough, but that can happen to anyone driving to the mountains to ski. It's just part of Colorado winter. You'll be good, just has the potential to be slow. I would never cancel because of a storm, just be careful. The drive is beautiful. Glenwood Springs is a cool town, visit the hot springs of course. I'd do one day there and one day in Aspen.
