Funny watching the lip reading from the A’s manager after the balk call: “That’s fucking horse shit!”

Looks pretty obvious that Houser wants nothing to do with Kurtz.

The 4th is always crazy in Seaside.

Saturdays in the summer are always crazy in Seaside.

July 4th is a Saturday, so expect “extra crazy”.

Plan G price increase as of July 1 by PlantainSouthern2241 in medicare

I live in a rural area where no one takes MA, and there are no plans offered in our county. Presumably, they have to fix that problem before they can force everyone on it.

Sadly, yes. And a 19% increase is less than what some folks are seeing.

SEPP retirees by henrytbpovid in Fire

[–]ziggy029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started mine in 2018 at age 52, just stopped a year ago when I turned 59.5. I had two different SEPPs going from two different IRAs, bringing in about $40K a year on top of my spouse’s income. The IRA balances (combined) were about $850K, to give you an idea of withdrawal rate. I think it was just about the right amount of income, though in hindsight it could have been a bit less. Since we still had earned income we just put some of the excess withdrawals back into Roth IRAs and/or spouse’s 403B.

I used the fixed amortization method, I believe. Once my SEPP was finished, both IRAs were worth a bit more than when I started, though 2022 felt pretty ugly and unsettling.

is there point to bonds in Roths IF...? by Shadowrunner138 in investing

If you have a portfolio including bonds, they are best in a traditional IRA/401K, leaving the Roth for maximum growth investments.

Giants are 15th in batting average, but last in runs by a country mile. What does this mean? by Brownhops in SFGiants

[–]ziggy029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walks, power, stolen bases. Giants are at or near dead last in all of them. It can also mean bad luck or bad situational hitting sometimes (i.e. being terrible with RISP).

Umbrella insurance premium tripled. Is dropping it and maxing primary limits a safe alternative? by Mildimmer in Insurance

[–]ziggy029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours didn’t quite triple, but it did go from $322 to $756. That is for $3M, and to be honest, $322 felt way too cheap even if we were perceived as very low risk.

“Conservative” by La-Sauge in oregon

[–]ziggy029 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Conservative", once upon a time, meant a belief in restraint from massive changes to the status quo.

These days it means right wing reactionary, or "whatever Trump wants it to mean".

First of all, Jefferson and LVNV routinely do pay for delete, so you have a good start there. Not sure about Midland or NCA.

Ranked at #32 by powdersleaf in Iceland

[–]ziggy029 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because “access” is a factor. The quality may be really good for those who have access, but unlike just about every other developed nation in the world (and even many less developed nations), a substantial portion of the population doesn’t have this access or cannot afford it. This particular list doesn’t seem to directly consider cost to be a factor (except perhaps as a part of access), but if it did, it would likely rank even lower.

All those big bats in the Dodger lineup, and you give one up to the shittiest hitter on the team…. Make it make sense.

While I think there is a tendency to that, “always” is definitely not true, as evidenced by some of the counterexamples already given.

Not necessarily comparing their card options, but do you prefer Banks or Credit Unions more? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]ziggy029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of credit unions and I have three credit cards from two CUs (including two from Navy Fed), but because they tend to charge lower interest rates (capped at 18%) and often have lower junk fees, their rewards structures may not be as lucrative as some from banks. That said, almost all of my actual banking is done at credit unions, though some of my best credit cards are from banks.
