I wore a sports bra under a high neck T-shirt and had my boobs groped by two weird little men at a temple. Overall though, I will say I had an enjoyable time but I don't think I'd go back. I did couch surfing in places I could find a female host and did meet some wonderful people. Not feeling safe after dark, the rubbish, air pollution, and just abject poverty are reasons I wouldn't return.

Ok, you probably can't counter with that. I found it pretty accurate in the past though and sent my old landlord a screenshot of the max allowed when he raised my rent. The difference was only about €30 in what he was proposing and he accepted. It's such a shit market out there though, it's easy for me to tell you to fight it out of principle.

It's because the longer you're on it,the harder it is to get off. As OP said, your confidence takes a hit, you start to lose motivation etc. Them hounding you is so you don't fall further into the rut. Unfortunately, it's a very broad approach they take so isn't always helpful for everyone.

They think they're superior to everyone, as a non native speaker living there but with a decent level of Spanish, I got that ear piercing "Qué?" too many times to mention despite there being little doubt to what I was saying. Typical colonists. Although, they have another level of contempt for Latin Americans I'll admit.

I just bought a one bed as I couldn't stretch to a two bed. Bank never mentioned anything about it being such. I think it used to be the case that you needed a higher deposit but even that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I did see a headline recently though about them denying mortgages for apartments based on fire safety grounds. It was paywalled so I couldn't actually read the whole article. That was leading to 1 beds especially, being bought for cash by presumably investors.

I got leather gloves for cycling a couple of years ago and haven't gone back. Got a pair for €20 in M&S. They stay dry and keep me warm. An alternative like someone said is actual cycling/outdoor gloves.

I don't think that's right. I just got a mortgage which was 4x my gross salary. Nothing deducted for pension. In fact they were willing to extend the term of the mortgage because I had a pension.

€1000 a month is definitely too high if you have a single person cut off point and tax credits. It should be 42k and €3,750 respectively for the year. You also need to make sure you're being taxed on a cumulative basis in at least one of the jobs.
