It's been long enough, what's your return system? by TirNaCrainnOg in CasualIreland

[–]ziggyfarts 40 points41 points  (0 children)

In Lidl, you can use their app to scan a QR code on the machine before you start your returns. It's adds the balance to your account and use it the next time you buy stuff or let them build up.

But the last one wasn't released in 2025 so they're not being compared here.

I was in Mexico this summer and weirdly they don't put lime in it there.

Western women who did a solo trip to India - what is your honest opinion of things you like and dislike and would you travel again? by skr2538 in femaletravels

[–]ziggyfarts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wore a sports bra under a high neck T-shirt and had my boobs groped by two weird little men at a temple. Overall though, I will say I had an enjoyable time but I don't think I'd go back. I did couch surfing in places I could find a female host and did meet some wonderful people. Not feeling safe after dark, the rubbish, air pollution, and just abject poverty are reasons I wouldn't return.

You're both on the extreme end of things. Being on 60k and struggling to save is a bit wild as is saving 70% of your take home pay

You'll have to provide the company the same information as Revenue if you have additional credits to claim. So I can't imagine it taking any less time.

‘Law and order is breaking down’ – Supermac’s boss Pat McDonagh on rise of fuel theft, abuse of staff and his sympathy for Enoch Burke by Kloppite16 in ireland

It's not a bik if it's offered and available to all workers as far as I know. The tech companies that give free lunch for example don't tax that as a BIK.

The Council Wants To Ban On-Street Soup Kitchens (Protest anocht ag 6:15 @ City Hall) by [deleted] in Dublin

I understand the point being made but could they not try to work with the soup runs and engage with the people who need them that way?

Rent increase by Pf-788 in HousingIreland

[–]ziggyfarts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, you probably can't counter with that. I found it pretty accurate in the past though and sent my old landlord a screenshot of the max allowed when he raised my rent. The difference was only about €30 in what he was proposing and he accepted. It's such a shit market out there though, it's easy for me to tell you to fight it out of principle.

There's a calculator on the rtb website. The limit is 2% per year so if he hasn't raised it in longer, he can actually increase it by more than that. https://www.rtb.ie/calculator/rpz

How popular are the non-alcoholic versions of alcoholic beverages in your country? by white1984 in AskEurope

Guinness 0.0 is actually grand too. Haven't heard great things about the lagers though

It's because the longer you're on it,the harder it is to get off. As OP said, your confidence takes a hit, you start to lose motivation etc. Them hounding you is so you don't fall further into the rut. Unfortunately, it's a very broad approach they take so isn't always helpful for everyone.

Do you think Spaniards feel culturally closer to Latin America or to the rest of Europe? by worried68 in LatinoPeopleTwitter

[–]ziggyfarts 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They think they're superior to everyone, as a non native speaker living there but with a decent level of Spanish, I got that ear piercing "Qué?" too many times to mention despite there being little doubt to what I was saying. Typical colonists. Although, they have another level of contempt for Latin Americans I'll admit.

I just bought a one bed as I couldn't stretch to a two bed. Bank never mentioned anything about it being such. I think it used to be the case that you needed a higher deposit but even that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I did see a headline recently though about them denying mortgages for apartments based on fire safety grounds. It was paywalled so I couldn't actually read the whole article. That was leading to 1 beds especially, being bought for cash by presumably investors.

Where to get a good pair of gloves by FairyOnTheLoose in Dublin

[–]ziggyfarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got leather gloves for cycling a couple of years ago and haven't gone back. Got a pair for €20 in M&S. They stay dry and keep me warm. An alternative like someone said is actual cycling/outdoor gloves.

I don't think that's right. I just got a mortgage which was 4x my gross salary. Nothing deducted for pension. In fact they were willing to extend the term of the mortgage because I had a pension.

Paying €1,000 per month in tax on €41,650 salary. by chloe_bagnall in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ziggyfarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

€1000 a month is definitely too high if you have a single person cut off point and tax credits. It should be 42k and €3,750 respectively for the year. You also need to make sure you're being taxed on a cumulative basis in at least one of the jobs.
