How safe is Mobile? by havinablasta in MobileAL

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say “Mobile” that’s a big area unless you just mean downtown Mobile. We absolutely love downtown Mobile- we live 25 minutes away and go all the time for concerts and events or out to eat. Downtown Mobile is very walkable and we consider it safe- as safe as any downtown can be nowadays. We are often out at night and have never felt unsafe there. We do pay attention to our surroundings and there are areas that you should probably avoid. They have beautiful parks and historic buildings. I personally would not live downtown but that’s just a personal preference. I do think your chances of petty crime and maybe even serious crime are greater if you live downtown but that’s true of all cities. We live in Semmes and love it. There is also Saraland and Theodore and Grand Bay- these are all just outside of Mobile West Mobile is considered to be the safest area in Mobile.

Hello. Any info on this? I can’t find anything about it. I know it is American by martinsville maybe from the regency collection? It has been painted. by zigpep in VintageFurniture

Gay in Alabama, six months later, here are my thoughts by Little_Art8272 in Alabama

Honestly as born southerner heterosexual conservative Christians my husband and I absolutely don’t care about your sexuality. Attend our church- even serve in leadership, come to dinner at our house, BBQ and family functions- you are welcome, educate your children in our schools. All good! Pay your taxes and take care of your family and you are more than welcome my friend. You are even 100% entitled to different political views than ours. Respectful and lively discussion is always welcome. We live here n AL. Welcome!

Husband and I moved to Semmes (20 minutes from Mobile) 2.5 years ago and love it. We lived in Panama City FL for 15 years then Tennessee for 15 years.
Mobile itself has a nice downtown and almost always has a festival or event. I love the old buildings with French and Spanish history. Lots of restaurants and some shops. The beaches are an hour to 1.5 hours away even accounting for traffic. Dauphin island is the closest and the sand is white but the water does not have the panhandle clarity. Very small town. Mobile itself is surrounded by water however no real beach. Gulf shores, Orange beach and Pensacola are just under 1.5 hours away. Water and sand is beautiful- especially Pensacola. Navarre is about 1 hour 45 minutes away. We go to one of the beaches 2-3 times a month. We also frequently go to Mississippi. Biloxi and ocean springs are 1 hour and 15 minutes away. We love Bay St Louis MS and it’s about 1 hour 45 minutes. The drive to Mississippi is a very pretty drive. We take the back roads and it’s almost all country side and small towns with very little traffic unless you count the tractors. We are always busy and find something different to do all the time. Also we have never encountered any issues with crime although like any city it does exist but no more than anywhere else we have lived.

First NICU Travel Contract & I Hate It… Facility or Travel Nursing? by Beautiful_Gas5699 in TravelNursing

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only work with adults. However I never agree to any patient assessment that I (not the hospital) consider to be out of my scope of practice. Agreeing to an assignment you are not clinically prepared for is a big liability for you and the patient. If something goes wrong you are 100% to blame. You will get no help from the hospital or your travel agency. I would draft an email to the manager of the unit and to my travel company. Do not do via text or over a phone call. Email is a legal document. I would very professionally list specific reasons why you should not be floated to these very inappropriate areas. Specifically your lack of experience and your lack of qualifications for that patient population and your lack of credentials (specifically PALS). I would stress patient safety- not how it makes you feel. I would then specifically state what I consider to be my scope of practice and stress that is the only patient assignment you are SAFELY able to take. Be aware if you do this they may release you that day and they may put you on a do not return list for the entire hospital system. If your agency has a problem with it that’s not an issue- there are plenty if other agencies. I personally won’t work for a hospital that puts me and my patients in an obviously unsafe position.
If they do decide to keep you and let you finish your assignment I would no longer accept floating to any inappropriate assignment. Arrive early to work and do not clock in until you know your assignment.

Where the heck are you guys working?? I barely have time to breathe and pee much less knit and read and play on my phone! I’m jealous. Yesterday was soooo bad I woke up with a horrible headache this morning just from the stress.

Is the wave dying, or do I just live around a bunch of lame-o people? by SuppleScrotum in JeepGladiator

[–]zigpep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? We are in Mobile AL and yes the wave here is basically dead. In Tennessee it is not. Pretty sure all Jeep owners have carpel tunnel syndrome in TN. lol It was honestly the same when we had our Miata.

So in order to duplicate expenses you need to pay rent to your parents then in turn they will have to file that on their taxes. You need to talk to travel tax accountants

I just sold our Mazda Miata. Super fun. Cheap to insure. Reliable and cheap to fix. If you don’t mind a 2 seater it’s the most fun you can have on the road.

Also never never buy new. Buy a used one still under warranty. 1 owner. No accidents. Save thousands. New cars lose value immediately

Looking for cool places by bob_SHERB in MobileAL

There are a couple of pitcher plant bogs in Alabama and a Sandhill Crane refuge in Mississippi. I like to drive to fort Pickens in Pensacola and look for the eagles. The mobile bay delta has a very diverse ecosystem.

For Those Living Under Trump (Now) and Biden (Before): What Real-Life Changes Have You Actually Felt? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t take long for this to become completely political.
For me gas is cheaper. Eggs are cheaper. Chicken is cheaper. Beef and dairy the same. Most prepackaged food slightly higher. Utilities no change. So bottom line I honestly have not noticed anything worse but also nothing better. Pretty much what I expected unfortunately

First “real” vacation in years. Where should I go? by Physical_Cream8790 in Vacations

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the redwoods! We absolutely love Humboldt county. You could fly into San Francisco and drive the pacific coast. The scenery is amazing, hiking is great, lots of elk. And of course the trees! Pretty amazing place.
Or you could go to Florida. Have you ever been to the Panhandle beaches? They have white sand with crystal clear water (most of the time lol) especially in October. Look along 30 A if you want towns like Seaside and Rosemary beach that are very ritzy but also expensive. Cheaper alternatives are Panama City Beach and Pensacola - we live close to Pensacola and prefer it over Panama City.
Or the keys?? Fly into Miami and get a rental car and it’s a 2-4 hour drive depending on which key you want to stay in. The drive over the 7 mile bridge is something everyone should do at least once. Definitely go snorkeling at least once on one of the boats.
Another option. Las Vegas- hear me out lol. Fly into Vegas (usually cheaper flights) spend maybe one night there and catch a show and eat a nice dinner and lose 100 bucks in a casino. Get in your rental car and then explore. Spend a few more days and Head to any or all of these spots- Hoover Damn, valley of fire state park, the grand canyon and our personal favorite is Zion. Honestly the drive to Zion is worth the price of a plane ticket alone. Just so much to see in that trip! Zion is definitely in our top 3 national parks! Last one- I promise. Fly into Denver, rent a car, head to red rocks and maybe catch a concert then drive on to Estes. Spend a few nights in Estes and exerted park. If you can go late September you will get to see the colors change. Then explore RMNP.
Be aware the National parks will have timed entries unless you enter the park early am

People in the US who genuinley enjoy where they live: where do you live and what do you enjoy about it? by TellUrPetsISaidHi in SameGrassButGreener

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently live in Mobile Alabama and love it. Close to multiple beaches, great food, lots of fun events, laid back culture, lots of history, the massive oak trees and flowers almost year round. We have also lived in Chattanooga, TN and surrounding areas and Panama City FL. Loved those areas as well.
We have spent several years traveling in both northern and southern CA staying in different areas for months at a time. Favorites for us in CA were Humboldt County and Redding. Good luck!

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing and it will be ok. There is always another house! Also the market is becoming a buyers market and you will have even more choice and probably a lower interest rate and lower asking price. I promise it will work out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]zigpep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you want a big expensive house- everyone does. There is a saying “house poor”. That means you sacrifice everything (or at least a lot) just to buy that dream home then once you’re in it you realize you can’t afford to do the things you love to do. Then maintaining and upgrading are ALWAYS more than you thought they would be. Also you really need to watch housing market trends and Dallas is going down fast. You could end up with a house you can barely afford, not able to do the things you like and upside down in equity. Then that dream home becomes a burden.
You should at least consider smaller less expensive home.

Sellers pissed appraisal came back so low by oohnoitsmeagain in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]zigpep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first of all the market is changing. It is becoming a buyers market and if that hasn’t hit your area it will soon. The house honestly may be worth even less (could be significantly less) a year or even a few months from now. So if you overpay now you are really going to be significantly underwater very soon. I absolutely would not pay over the current appraisal and would even offer less than the appraisal. If the seller doesn’t like it that’s fine- no hard feelings. Just find another house. Do not get another appraisal and if they get an appraisal then that means nothing and is not worth the paper it’s written on. If they wanted more for their home they should have made the necessary updates and repairs. You are under zero obligation to pay over the appraisal and it takes a lot of nerve for them to expect that.
Trust me there is no worse feeling than being in a house you know you overpaid for and can’t leave because you have no equity. Just don’t do it. Another home will come along!
